FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Queensborough Community College is seeking applications for a position in the title of Assistant Professor to start in Fall 2026.
As a community college in the City University of New York system, Queensborough Community College offers a wide variety of courses for university transfer, general education, preparation for careers, and enrichment. Contractual teaching load is 24 contact hours for the academic year, summer optional. Faculty on the Assistant Professor tenure-track line receive reassigned time to pursue scholarship, and continued scholarly activities are required for tenure and promotion. Faculty members participate in departmental and college activities, including committee work, course and program assessment, curriculum development, and preparation of grants. Faculty members also provide academic support and advisement for students.
Responsibilities include:
+ Performs teaching and related faculty functions in both mathematics and computer science.
+ Promotes and develops the department’s programs in conjunction with other faculties; offers opportunities to students for research.
+ Develops and employs instructional methods and strategies appropriate for courses including, but not limited to, student-centered learning, active learning, writing across the curriculum, online homework, learning communities, service learning, project-based learning, exploration with mathematical software packages, and the use of internet-centered educational technology.
+ Demonstrates productive scholarship or achievement in mathematics, mathematics education, computer science, or data science.
+ Leads and serves on departmental and college-wide committees, including administrative, supervisory and other functions.
+ Leads and participates in departmental and college responsibilities, including curriculum development and grants.
+ Leads and participates in the review and continuous assessment and improvement of the programs and courses offered by the department.
+ Cooperates with others for the benefit of the institution.
+ Participates in faculty development opportunities including workshops and college programs.
+ Evening or weekend teaching may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS
Ph.D. degree in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Computer Science or equivalent. Candidates who are in the final stages of their Ph.D. program and whose degree is expected to be conferred by June 30, 2026, are encouraged to apply.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Prior teaching experience and ability to cooperate effectively for the benefit of the institution.
Demonstrated scholarship or achievements.
Innovative perspectives and non-traditional approaches to pedagogy to enhance student learning.
Experience with teaching in a diverse college setting, mentoring students, conducting assessments, successful grant writing, teacher preparation and outreach and experience with data science and/or educational technology.
Interest in contributing to and strengthening the department’s emerging Computer Science program and developing Data Science offerings, even if formal training is in a related discipline.
COMPENSATION
Salary range $ 86,741 - $94,909 (9/1/25 Salary Schedule). Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
