    TRAVEL Welder / Fabricator – Heavy Gauge Carbon Steel (FCAW)

     

    Project located in York PA

     

    Project Overview

     

    We are seeking skilled Welder/Fabricators to support the Rocky Mountain Hydro-Electric Plant Headcover Refurbishment Project. This project involves weld and fabrication work on large headcover components.

     

    This is a heavy-gauge, multi-pass carbon steel welding role involving large components that are pre-heated up to 300°F, significant grinding, and occasional work in tight or confined spaces.

    Responsibilities

    + Perform heavy-gauge carbon steel welding using Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW / Dual Shield)

    + Complete multi-pass welds on large fabricated components

    + Follow blueprints, weld symbols, and WPS requirements

    + Set and adjust welding parameters to optimize weld quality and performance

    + Conduct grinding of fillets and back-gouges to meet quality standards

    + Operate plasma cutting and carbon arc gouging equipment as required

    + Produce welds that meet stringent quality standards, including MT (Magnetic Particle) and UT (Ultrasonic) inspections

    + Meet defined output, quality, and safety metrics

    Required Skills & Experience (Must-Haves)

    + Proficient in **blueprint reading** and strong understanding of **weld symbols**

    + Fully proficient in **FCAW (Flux Core Arc Welding)** on **heavy-gauge carbon steel**

    + Welding certifications are **preferred**

    + Ability to set welding parameters per **WPS** and make adjustments as needed

    + Proven ability to produce **high-quality welds** suitable for MT and UT testing

    + Experience with **grinding fillets and performing back-gouging**

    + Capable and willing to operate **plasma cutting and carbon arc gouging equipment**

    + Ability to weld using **larger wire diameters** , including:

    + **3/32”** in flat and horizontal positions

    + **1/16”** in vertical positions

    Work Environment

    + Shop-based fabrication work

    + Welding on **large, heated components** (up to 300°F)

    + Physically demanding role requiring grinding and work in tight spaces

    This is a Contract position based out of Chicago, IL.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $34.00 - $34.00/hr.
