    The Department of Residence at Iowa State University is seeking a Facilities Project Manager II to oversee planning, design, and construction for renovations and new projects across 3.2 million square feet of facilities. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys managing projects from concept to completion.

     

    What You’ll Do

     

    + Plan and scope projects by meeting with leadership, staff, and residents to assess needs, develop building programs, and create cost estimates and schedules.

    + Manage design phases by serving as the primary liaison with architects, engineers, and consultants, ensuring compliance with codes, ADA, LEED, and departmental standards.

    + Oversee construction activities including scheduling, budget tracking, site observation, and quality assurance for multiple projects simultaneously.

    + Coordinate stakeholders across campus, including Environmental Health & Safety, Facilities Planning & Management, and internal maintenance teams.

    + Maintain project archives and supervise student interns to support design documentation and departmental standards.

    + Lead full renovation life cycles this includes developing drawings and schedules, managing procurement, coordinating furniture removal, flooring demolition and installation, and working with electricians, plumbers, and other trades. Some in-house design work is also part of the role, giving you the opportunity to shape spaces directly.

     

    You’ll work closely with department leadership, design professionals, contractors, and university stakeholders to deliver high-quality, cost-effective projects that improve the student experience.

    Example of Duties• Develops project schedule, milestones and monitors progress to assure timelines are met.• Directs and manages the project development and design phases.• Establishes required project deliverables from project design team.• Assures the building scope, goals and design are consistent with university requirements, building codes, etc.• Acts as the primary liaison for the university in dealings with internal and external stakeholders.• Participates in the selection of design professionals and other consultants and in the negotiation of these agreements.• May provide supervision and guidance to student employees, volunteers, or visitors.Level Guidelines• Intermediate-level position with solid professional and/or technical skills working under general supervision to achieve goals• Applies broad, working knowledge of the principles of the field to moderately complex, difficult, and varied problems and issues• Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action and resolve problems• Responds to a broad range of inquiries and requests• May provide training and/or direction to lower-level staff• May lead projects of moderate scope and complexity• Provides guidance to students
