Job Title: Environmental Lab Analyst

Job Description

The Environmental Lab Analyst will accession and evaluate environmental samples for compliance with holding time and acceptance criteria. This role involves conducting routine bacteriological testing using standardized procedures and quality control protocols. The analyst will also recommend adjustments or enhancements to established methods to address complex analytical challenges, serve as the lead analyst for testing across various sample types and matrices, and participate in the Food Emergency Response Network for E. coli, listeria, and other bacteria testing. Additionally, the analyst will perform wastewater testing for infectious disease surveillance.

Responsibilities

+ Accession and evaluate environmental samples for compliance.

+ Conduct routine bacteriological testing using standardized procedures.

+ Recommend adjustments or enhancements to established methods.

+ Serve as the lead analyst for testing across various sample types and matrices.

+ Participate in the Food Emergency Response Network for bacteria testing.

+ Perform wastewater testing for infectious disease surveillance.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

+ 4-year degree in life sciences (biology, chemistry, microbiology, biochemistry preferred).

+ Minimum of 6 months of lab experience required.

+ Experience with plating techniques is preferred.

Work Environment

The role is lab-based, requiring physical activity throughout the day. The work setting involves frequent standing, walking, and stair climbing to collect and process samples, with a combination of sitting and movement across lab stations. The environment is fast-paced and collaborative, with strong emphasis on teamwork and communication. The lab team includes nine other professionals working closely together.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Iowa City, IA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
