    Job Title: Distribution Field TechnicianJob Description

     

    The Distribution Field Technician is responsible for preparing field notes, drawings, specifications, and design estimates, and interacting with a variety of individuals, including engineers. The role requires developing a working knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), national engineering standards, and utility construction standards, along with best industry engineering practices.

    Responsibilities

    + Prepare and modify electrical and roadway drawings, specifications, calculations, charts, graphs, and construction drawing packages.

    + Perform field technical services for the operation, inspection, and maintenance of electrical distribution systems, including system inventories and audits, joint use management and permitting, pad-mount inspections, ground-line pole inspections, metering and apparatus services, and lighting audits.

    + Collect field data utilizing laptop computers, tablets, GPS, and other electronic devices for input into database software.

    + Develop a working knowledge of telephone, cable, and other communication facilities.

    + Operate necessary equipment to take measurements on utility poles and mid-span facilities, and perform pole inspections and maintenance on pad-mount equipment.

    + Present ideas effectively in formal and informal situations, communicate well in writing, and maintain proper ethics in email and telephone communications.

    + Keep supervisors and coworkers informed, sharing complete and accurate information with others.

    Essential Skills

    + Analytical competence to interact with engineers and other professionals.

    + Working knowledge of National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) and utility construction standards.

    + Proficiency in engineering software and Microsoft Office applications.

    + Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.

    + Technical aptitude and familiarity with engineering disciplines including design and constructability.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + Entry-level position requiring an Associate's degree in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering.

    + 1+ years of experience in Electric Utility or telecommunications field preferred.

    + Familiarity with AutoCAD or similar programs preferred.

    + Clear and valid driver's license required for travel to surrounding utility territories.

    + Bachelor's degree preferred.

    Work Environment

    The role primarily involves working outdoors in the field. The technician must be comfortable working in various weather conditions and using electronic devices for data collection.

     

    Job Type & Location

     

    This is a Permanent position based out of Raleigh, NC.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.
