Role Overview:
This position is a key member of the Data Analytics Division, which is responsible for the reporting and analytic efforts of the Department of Correction. This position plays a key role in the design and development of the Department's Business Intelligence platform by driving data reporting solutions in an effort to improve business operations and data integrity.
In this role, you will design research methods and conduct statistical analysis to identify and recommend options and alternatives for Department administrators so they can determine efficient and cost-effective short and long-term plans. This position requires a high level of coordination with Department leadership and informs key decision makers of significant trends, developments, or outcomes.
Salary Statement:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $67,314.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
+ Creation of Business Intelligence dashboards. Assist with the full life-cycle execution of reporting and analytical solutions.
+ Conduct statistical analysis on topics of importance to the Department, analyze and interpret the data to deliver actionable insights to inform decision making
+ Obtain and manage Department of Correction databases, Audit these databases for accuracy, request corrections to databases as necessary, and write computer programs to utilize databases.
+ Make recommendations and present analytical findings to Department leadership based on data, trends and population projections to align with short and long-term business strategies
+ Design, track and report performance metrics and key performance indicators of programs and initiatives run by other Divisions in the Department
+ Respond to questions from Executive Staff and other Divisions in the Department by operationally defining their questions consistent with acceptable research standards and available data, identifying appropriate data sources, conducting appropriate analyses, and preparing written, data-based reports/dashboards in response to their questions
+ Respond to inquiries from external departments, State and Federal agencies, and the general public regarding the adult and juvenile offender populations, statistics, and trends
+ Attend meetings to represent the data interests of the Department and conduct data related presentations on behalf of the Department
+ Stay current in local, state, and national criminal justice research, trends and issues and update Department administrators and other interested Department personnel with this information
+ Perform related duties as assigned by the Director of Data Science and analytics

This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours which may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.
What You'll Need for Success:
You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:
+ Extensive knowledge of scientific research methods, including study design, data collection, and data analysis, interpretation, and presentation. Knowledge of descriptive statistics and advanced analytical methodologies. An ability to identify the appropriate way to research particular problems and how resultant data should be analyzed and presented is essential
+ Excellent understanding of data mining, data visualization, and statistical modeling
+ Experience developing business intelligence dashboards, including experience with full life cycle planning of BI dashboards
+ Considerable experience with a variety of software programs, including programming knowledge in a statistical program for Social Sciences (i.e., SAS, R, or Python)
+ Experience writing complex, cross-platform queries and ETLs as well as familiarity with database querying using SQL
+ Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with emphasize on being able to articulate complex outcomes to diverse stakeholders
+ Strong organizational and time management skills and the ability to manage many deadline intensive projects simultaneously, work under time constraints, and manage multiple competing demands
+ Ability to facilitate the planning process by generating new plans, requirements, and approaches; and developing and clarifying data analytic needs for others, primarily by identifying and operationally defining key factors/variables, moderating influences, and outcomes/results
+ Experience working with a variety of users to gather requirements; with proven ability to establish cooperative working relationships with Department staff and external stakeholders
+ Thorough knowledge of the Department of Correction as well as all levels of the Criminal Justice system, including national criminal justice research resources and trends
Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role may provide direct supervision for one or more staff members.
