Sr. Cost Accountant

Description We are looking for an experienced Sr. Cost Accountant to join our team on a contract basis in Madison, Wisconsin. This role requires someone who is detail oriented, has a strong background in project accounting, and possesses a keen analytical mindset. You will play a critical part in overseeing financial operations, ensuring compliance, and driving process improvements while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities:
• Manage project accounting tasks, including setting up and closing projects, ensuring accurate revenue recognition, and resolving complex billing issues.
• Perform month-end closing activities such as calculating project revenue, preparing accruals, and reconciling general ledger accounts in compliance with US standards.
• Oversee and support financial audits, including customer-based and internal evaluations.
• Implement and maintain forecasting processes for invoicing, cash flow, and working capital.
• Identify barriers to cash flow performance and provide feedback on commercial terms to optimize project outcomes.
• Collaborate with project management, engineering, and other teams to ensure seamless financial operations.
• Maintain and enforce financial policies, controls, and procedures to ensure compliance.
• Support credit and collections efforts to ensure timely receipt of payments and resolve invoicing disputes.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives and establish best practices for project accounting processes.
• Prioritize workload and maintain billing system data to ensure accuracy and efficiency. Requirements • Proven experience in cost accounting and cost analysis.
• Strong expertise in project accounting, including setup, reporting, and invoicing.
• Advanced proficiency in Excel, including formulas and data analysis.
• Familiarity with month-end closing procedures and general ledger reconciliation.
• Ability to manage complex billing issues and resolve disputes effectively.
• Knowledge of financial policies, controls, and compliance standards.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Effective communication and collaboration abilities across various teams.
