Snapshot of Your Day:
As a Tanks & Externals Design Engineer, you will be accountable for the mechanical design of Tanks & Externals for power transformers, focusing on innovation and product optimization in accordance with Siemens Energy’s design standards, quality requirements, cost objectives, and project timelines. The responsibilities include both detailed mechanical design for order execution and the preparation of customer documents and drawings relevant to Tanks & Externals for Power Transformers.
This position is located at our forthcoming Siemens Energy Transformers Manufacturing Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA. The facility is scheduled for completion by late 2026, with production to follow thereafter. Initially, this role will involve overseeing factory construction, implementing new processes, developing a high-performance team, and coordinating all aspects of factory setup to ensure readiness for production.
How You’ll Make an Impact:
+ Design and analyze transformer tanks and components (stiffeners, covers, coolers, conservators, pipework, cabling).
+ Create master layouts and detailed drawings using 2D/3D CAD; prepare bills of material and customer documentation.
+ Develop technical specifications and manage procurement of tank-related parts (fans, pumps, radiators, valves).
+ Apply transformer design principles and calculation tools for structural components.
+ Perform mechanical and advanced structural/seismic calculations; size and select accessories.
+ Support R&D projects for product improvements.
What You Bring:
+ Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical Engineering with 5+ years as a Tank Design Engineer for medium or large Power Transformers. Candidates with more experience may be considered for a high level and vice versa.
+ Strong knowledge of structural steel parts, materials, and transformer tank components.
+ Familiarity with IEEE, ANSI, and IEC standards.
+ Proficient in 3D CAD (CREO, Pro/E, Inventor), 2D CAD (AutoCAD), PDM systems (PDM Link, Teamcenter), and SAP for BOM creation.
+ Effective collaboration with manufacturing, suppliers, and customers.
+ SAP experience preferred.
+ Must be based in or willing to relocate to Charlotte, NC.
