    What does a Sr. Trust Officer – Team Lead do?

     

    The Senior Trust Officer Team Lead at Canandaigua National Trust Company Florida (CNTF) is responsible for providing trust and estate services to customer relationships within the bank's market area, retaining business along with obtaining new business opportunities through existing clients and other centers of influence, achieving goals developed for the function as part of the CNB Wealth's annual operating plan, while ensuring compliance with various operating policies and procedures and various regulatory requirements. This position is also responsible for providing team leadership and guidance to staff.

    Provides trust and estate services to clients of the CNB Wealth as follows:

    + Provides bank customers with complete trust services to include estates, personal trust, guardianships, and any other appropriate fiduciary capacity.

    + Responsible for directly servicing many of the most complex accounts and relationships within CNTF by utilizing both extensive industry knowledge and customer service experience.

    + Serves as a subject matter expert for directed and delegated trusts, providing both direct service to complex accounts and guidance to other Trust Officers as requested.

    + Provides guidance and counsel to Trust Officers and provides technical advice by leveraging extensive experience in the industry. Assists with problem solving within the department either by resolving them or recommending a course of action to those who are directly accountable. Actively pursues own ideas that may not be obvious to others (e.g. sees a different way of approaching a client/business matter and takes action by sharing ideas with those involved or are responsible for the outcome).

    + As an integral team member, helps facilitate the ongoing relationship for the many Centers of Influence (COIs) that are key to the on-going success of our Trust services. Manages these various relationships to both enhance current client relationships and to facilitate referrals of new clients.

    + Analyzes and provides fiduciary interpretation of governing legal documents with particular regard to fiduciary responsibilities, investments and discretionary powers on assigned accounts; responsible for cash management to meet ongoing cash flow requirements, and anticipates and plans for tax liabilities.

    + Commands an in-depth knowledge of fiduciary and admin issues, and current developments both internally and externally; expertise is often sought by others. Maintains strong ability to interpret and apply terms of governing documents, including development of innovative and effective recommendations to Trust Admin Committee regarding the exercise of discretionary fiduciary powers in unusual or complex situations.

    + Initiates and coordinates client meetings with each relationship and includes other team members or other professionals as necessary. Commands a detailed knowledge of key clients and their needs and circumstances including family, next generation, intermediaries and outsides advisors and proactively builds upon this knowledge. Answers client related questions from other team members.

    + Confers with clients, beneficiaries, attorneys, and other interested parties as necessary over the life of the account to explain the bank’s role; resolves problems; establishes the needs and interests of each, and provides assistance; displays superior ability to guide discussions with clients of changes in laws, tax codes, and/or client needs and circumstances as they affect their accounts or potential for new business.

    + Coordinates with the Wealth Advisors and others to monitor the cash and investments of each account with consideration of the objectives of the accounts, the needs of beneficiaries, and cash requirements for taxes and distributions.

    + Maintains a strong knowledge of legal, tax, and current ongoing developments as they apply generally to trust and estate administration. Thinks through different & complicated short and long term scenarios (e.g. cause-effect, if-then reasoning) to anticipate possible outcomes and potential ramifications of decisions.

    + Prepares and maintains documentation, status records and reports on trusts, estates, business development, and financial planning activities.

    + Actively engages in customer activity to meet the required annual goals as established as part of the CNB Wealth operating plan. (To include but not limited to New Business Development; Revenue Growth; Asset Retention and Compliance Reporting; and LOB referrals.)

     

    What is needed to be successful in this role?

     

    + A B.S. or B.S. degree in a field related to banking normally required.

    + Juris Doctor (JD) or master’s degree strongly preferred.

    + A minimum of seven (7) years' experience administering fiduciary accounts normally required.

    + Related legal/business experience in the financial services industry, including trust and estate planning experience required.

    + CTFA (Certified Trust and Financial Advisor) certification desirable.

    Compensation range: $125,500 - $155,500

     

    The actual salary offered within the range is dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, qualifications, skills, level offered, and performance expectations.
