The Governor’s Honors Program taking place June 14-July 11, 2026 is a 4-week residential summer program for skilled, knowledgeable, and talented high school sophomores and juniors. GHP offers instruction designed to provide students with academic, cultural, and social enrichment necessary to become the next generation of global critical thinkers, innovators, and leaders. The instruction GHP provides is legislatively required to be significantly different from what is provided in a typical classroom. Duties & Responsibilities: Students will interview and be accepted to study
• Civil Engineering
Instructors for Engineering will create innovative learning environments that allow students opportunities to conceptualize, create, analyze, and market effective solutions to engineering problems based around Civil engineering. The goal is to provide the students with industry-level rigor in an environment that encourages experimentation and is safe to fail in.
Note: GHP provides robust onboarding for our summer faculty and will provide as much information and guidance to support instructors as needed.
Schedule:
• This position runs from June 21, 2026– July 4, 2026. It is a 2-Week, Summer Residential Assignment at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, GA (on-campus housing and dining plan are provided).
• Faculty will provide instruction in the “major” discipline Monday – Saturday, and will provide instruction in an elective area of study Monday-Friday.
• Faculty members are required to attend paid staff orientation and training sessions in advance of the summer program, work collaboratively with discipline-specific department staff on an ongoing basis; participate in outside-of-class activities when directed; and other assigned tasks related to the Governor’s Honors Program.
• A virtual training session will be held for new and returning faculty on Saturday, March 28, 2026. Faculty must prepare unit plans and/or a syllabus and course overviews that reflect a rigorous and engaging curriculum. Faculty must be able to maintain accurate records of attendance.
Applicants who can teach part, but not all of the full four weeks will be considered. Salary commensurate with commitment to their timeline.
Minimum Training & Experience: Bachelor’s Degree or higher. Minimum of (3) three years successful teaching experience in the specific content area at the college or secondary level. Experience teaching gifted education classes, Advanced Placement, or honors courses OR comparable experience teaching high school age students in a private or out of school environment (e.g., YMCA, private studio, professional ensemble classes) within the applicant’s field of expertise. Alternatively, (3) three years of engineering industry experience with former teaching experience (tutoring, College teaching assistant, etc) will satisfy all requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Engineering industry experience
• Significant experience teaching gifted secondary learners
• Proven ability to provide a challenging and differentiated instructional experience to diverse learners
• Proven ability to be flexible and adapt to changing priorities
• Ability to participate in coaching and professional growth opportunities to improve instructional practice and to support others to improve their craft
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• High level of professional integrity
