Summary
The Faculty Development Specialist will manage and oversee faculty mentoring and mentorship development programs designed to promote career success at Michigan Technological University. These programs include: Early Career Management; Advanced Career Management; Instructional Track Faculty Mentoring; Guiding Growth: A Workshop for Faculty Mentors; and a Mentoring Professional Learning Community. The successful candidate for this position will also collaborate with the Assistant Provost for Faculty Development on other faculty development initiatives that align with the candidate’s professional interests and expertise.
Responsibilities and Essential Duties
1. Manage faculty mentoring programs.
o Develop and coordinate mentoring information sessions at new faculty orientation.
o Develop, promote, and facilitate faculty mentoring and mentor development programs.
o Identify and invite senior faculty members to serve as mentors.
o Provide support to faculty mentoring committees.
o Develop and implement assessments of mentoring activities in support of continual improvement.
2. Collaborate with the Assistant Provost for Faculty Development on other faculty development initiatives.
3. Other duties as assigned
4. Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives.
5. Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work.
Required Education, Certifications, Licensures
•PhD or equivalent level of experience
Required Experience
•Faculty member at the associate level or higher at Michigan Tech.
•Experience working on external grants or contracts.
•Experience publishing in academic venues.
•Experience with instructional innovation at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Desirable Education and/or Experience
•Experience managing budgets and staff.
•Experience supervising graduate students.

•Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.

•Prior experience as an academic administrator.
