    The Cancer Registry department plays a vital role in advancing patient care, research, and regulatory compliance by ensuring the accurate capture and reporting of cancer-related data. This team supports institutional, state, and national reporting requirements while contributing high-quality data that informs clinical outcomes, research initiatives, and cancer surveillance efforts.

     

    As a Clinical Data Abstracter, you will review and interpret complex medical records to accurately abstract malignant and benign disease information in accordance with regulatory and state requirements. This role includes identifying reportable cancer cases within the electronic health record, performing data abstraction for research and operational needs, and ensuring high standards of data quality through attention to detail and adherence to established guidelines. Your work will directly support clinical teams, researchers, and leadership by providing reliable data essential to cancer care and analysis.

    This position is 100% remote (within Texas only). The ideal candidate will be Cancer Registrar certified or currently enrolled in a Cancer Registrar program

     

    *Abstracting* - Read and comprehend detailed and complex medical information, either handwritten or typed, from patient medical records. Information to abstract meets regulatory agencies and state requirements and includes malignant and/or benign disease information (i.e. cancer site, histology and stage) Responsible for abstracting non-analytical (failed treatment) cases and minimal clinical oncologic data elements.

    *Case Finding* - Identify cancer cases in Epic and do a minimal data abstraction for research and operational purposes.

    *Abstracting Quality* - Maintain high quality of abstracted data as determined by co-worker review, user feedback, and other data-review mechanisms. Demonstrate attention to detail as exacting accuracy of abstracted information is essential.

    *Education Required: High school diploma or equivalent. *

    *Experience Required: Two years of experience in tumor registry, healthcare, or related field. Additional years of education may be substituted for required experience on a one to one year basis.*
