About the Role
The Sr Controls Engineer works within the Sustaining Engineering organization to support, maintain, and enhance control systems across all Ground Support Equipment (GSE) product lines. This role focuses on hands-on hardware and software controls design, troubleshooting, and implementation in support of production, obsolescence management, and customer-driven product options. The Sr Controls Engineer owns smaller projects or subsystems of limited complexity and progressively takes on greater technical ownership with limited supervision.
YOUR IMPACT
These duties are not meant to be all-inclusive and other duties may be assigned
+ Design, modify, and support hardware and software control systems for GSE products operating primarily in low-voltage DC environments (24V DC), with exposure to higher-voltage electrified systems
+ Prepare timely and accurate heavy duty automotive software and electrical hardware designs based on written or verbal inputs and instructions. Demonstrated program experience with preference given to CoDeSys software programming techniques
+ Prepare timely and accurate operation instructions, test, and validation documents for software and hardware designs. Participate or lead validation efforts and design reviews as required
+ Support sustaining engineering activities including troubleshooting production issues, resolving obsolescence, and implementing design changes
+ Own and execute smaller projects or subsystems of limited complexity, typically managing up to two projects simultaneously
+ Work closely with all engineering groups, support teams, and manufacturing, to assure accurate integration and on time completion of options, modifications and new designs
+ Ability to learn and apply knowledge from all disciplines of engineering (mechanical, electrical, hydraulics, and software) to the design and control of complex systems
+ Provide assembly and test assistance and troubleshooting efforts as required to maintain production and delivery schedules
+ Monitors assigned project status and reports progress and obstacles to management as required to complete tasks on schedule and within budget
+ Evaluate and integrate replacement components, including wiring, pinouts, interfaces, and adapters
+ Perform manufacturing and test duties for extended periods of time as required by business needs or training purposes. FAST Response participation will be required
+ Communicate technical information clearly to internal teams and suppliers
+ Exercise sound engineering judgment when evaluating options and solving problems
+ Provide limited guidance or mentorship to entry-level engineers or technicians when appropriate
+ Regular attendance is required
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
+ Accredited Bachelor’s degree in Engineering – Electrical Engineering preferred. Others considered with strong experience.
+ Three (3) or more years of related engineering experience
+ Hands-on experience designing or supporting electrical control systems
+ Experience working with low-voltage DC systems (12V or 24V)
+ Understanding of controllers, inputs and outputs, digital signals, and PWM signal modulation
+ Experience with CAN communication or similar vehicle communication protocols
+ Ability to troubleshoot control systems through documentation review and on-equipment testing
STANDOUT QUALIFICATIONS
+ Experience supporting sustaining engineering or production environments
+ Experience with Codesys or similar PLC / control software platforms
+ Experience with mobile equipment electrical hardware and software design
+ Exposure to electrified or hybrid vehicle systems
+ Experience replacing obsolete components and supporting integration of new hardware into existing platforms
+ Familiarity with battery technologies used in vehicle systems
+ Experience collaborating closely with Mechanical Engineering and Hydraulic Engineering on system integration

Pay Range:
$79,300.00 - $126,900.00
The above pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target pay for the position across all U.S. locations. Within this range, individual pay is determined by various factors, including the scope and responsibilities of the role, the candidate's experience, education and skills, as well as the equity of pay among team members in similar positions.
