The Data Engineer position will be located on-site in Fairfax, VA, and may require some on-site support at the Pentagon. The Army PPB BOS program is seeking a data warehouse engineer who will make significant and ongoing contributions to the maturation of our data-driven processes. The ideal candidate possesses both the analytical aptitude and problem-solving skillset necessary for extracting value from a collection of novel data sets. Additionally, the candidate should possess working experience with latest data warehousing trends/toolsets and implementation methods. Other responsibilities may include data modeling, query tuning, performance tuning, troubleshooting, database development and testing. The candidate will work alongside a team of DB developers and other members of the program. The candidate will determine user needs, analyze system capabilities to achieve desired results and ensure software standards are met. The candidate will be a self-starter, team-player and work under general supervision. The candidate will be expected to complete the tasks in a fast-paced results driven environment.

Skills and Requirements

Basic Qualifications:

• 3-9 (Journeyman Level) or 9+ (Senior Level) years of experience with bachelor’s degree in computer science or related engineering discipline

• Experience developing data warehouse process models, including sourcing, loading, transforming, and extracting data sets

• Experience with design and implementation of data warehousing technologies including relational and nonrelational databases, SQL, and data analytics

• Experience supporting Oracle database management systems running on Windows or Linux

• Oracle development and administration

• Experience in full lifecycle project development

• Secret clearance or ability to obtain a Secret Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree or equivalent experience in Data Engineering, Computer Science, or related field

• Experience advising senior leadership or government stakeholders

• Understanding and working knowledge of industry standards and techniques for enterprise database systems and data warehousing

• Certifications in advanced data technologies (e.g., AWS Certified Data Analytics)

• Certified Oracle Database Administrator

• Knowledge of Amazon Web Service (AWS)

• Knowledge of Hierarchical Data Structures

• Experience working with PostgreSQL and Redshift

• Proficiency with technologies like Apache, Hadoop, Spark, and Kafka

• Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Matplotlib, and Seaborn

• Experience with JIRA, Jenkins, or Git

• Experience working in an agile or iterative development environment

Job Responsibilities:

We are seeking a Business Intelligence (BI) Software Engineer to support a United States Government program. The BI Engineer will be a member of the engineering group. Our team is chartered with providing the skills and innovative technologies to design, develop, produce, and sustain product lines while providing a decisive advantage to our customer’s missions.

The BI developer position will be in Herndon, VA. The candidate will be responsible for analysis, gathering requirements, design, development, testing, and documentation to build reports based on customer requests using BI software (such as Tableau, Power BI, OAS, etc.). The candidate will analyze requirements, implement technical solutions, and collaborate with external customers, partners, and internal team members during the software development life cycle to ensure software standards are met.

The candidate will be a team player and will be expected to manage and complete their tasks in a fast-paced, results-driven environment. Candidates should also have a strong desire to learn and apply emerging technologies such as AWS Cloud and Generative AI (GenAI) to enhance business intelligence and report development capabilities.

Basic Qualifications:

• 3-9 (Journeyman Level) or 9+ (Senior Level) years of experience and BS or equivalent in Computer Science or related technical field

• Experience with installation, configuration, and administration of Tableau and other BI tools

• Designs/develops complex reports and dashboards using BI tools (Tableau, OAS, etc.)

• Translate reporting requirements into reporting models, visualizations, and reports with a strong understanding of enterprise architecture

• Integrate dashboards and reports from a variety of sources (Oracle, Redshift, Flat Files, etc.), ensuring adherence to data quality, usability, and business rule standards

• Experience in building custom extensions using JavaScript, HTML, CSS scripting

• Strong analytical and research skills

• Secret clearance or ability to obtain a Secret Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of databases (Oracle, Redshift, etc.)

• Experience in SQL programming and data modeling

• Knowledge of Amazon Web Services (AWS)

• Familiarity with version control software (GitHub, SVN, etc.) and ticket tracking systems (JIRA, etc.)

• Experience working in an agile or iterative development environment

• Interest in learning and applying GenAI technologies to BI solutions
