    Description

    Patient Assessment & Program Development

    1. Makes physiological assessments and develops exercise programs to improve the patient's physical fitness.

    2. Measures and analyzes body composition including body fat, lean muscle mass, tone, desirable weight, and other factors to determine fitness level and establish goals.

    3. Identifies measurable goals and objectives for patients to reach through physical activity and exercise.

    4. Adapts exercise programs for special populations and individual needs and limitations.

    5. Prepares exit exercise prescriptions for patients graduating to a home program or continuing in the maintenance program.

    Exercise Instruction & Clinical Support

    1. Leads and instructs exercise classes for patients participating in exercise therapy.

    2. Monitors vital signs before and after exercise to ensure patient safety.

    3. Assists cardiology clinical staff with stress testing and adapts testing protocols for individuals with physical limitations.

    4. Develops and implements individualized exercise programs in collaboration with healthcare team members for rehabilitation and cardiac disease prevention.

    Patient Education & Engagement

    1. Participates in patient and client education on heart disease prevention, benefits of exercise, and cardiac rehabilitation.

    2. Provides mentoring and guidance to support long-term fitness and health improvement.

    3. Organizes and plans safe internal and external activities for patients.

    Emergency Response & Safety Preparedness

    1. Participates in quarterly mock emergency drills.

    2. Responds appropriately during patient emergency situations and assists ACLS-prepared staff.

    Documentation & Communication

    1. Records and maintains required documentation in accordance with department policies.

    2. Compiles daily attendance and patient progress information for referring physicians.

    3. Updates electronic systems and prepares hard copies of exercise prescriptions as needed.

    4. Maintains communication on educational materials, supply orders, action plans, and progress reports.

    5. Participates in patient care rounds and escalates patient issues when appropriate.

    Equipment & Facility Management

    1. Provides instruction in the proper and safe use of exercise equipment.

    2. Ensures exercise equipment is maintained and arranges for repairs or correction of malfunctions.

    Program Development & Administrative Support

    1. Assists in writing and updating policies and procedures for exercise programs and activities.

    2. Performs other related duties as required.

    **Travel:** Some travel may be required between supporting Operating Units Work Type: Onsite employee

    Minimum Required Qualifications:

    Education - Bachelor's degree in exercise science exercise physiology, or kinesiology required.

     

    Experience - None Certification - Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification in accordance with the American Heart Association or completion within 30 days of hire.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Education - Master's degree in the field of Exercise Science (MS, MA, or MEd).

     

    Experience - Six months of related experience or completion of an internship with Emory Healthcare.

     

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Medium Max 25lbs): up to 25 lbs., 0-33% of the work day (occasionally) Lifting 25 lbs. max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs.; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.

     

    ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Factors affecting environmental conditions may vary depending on the assigned work area and tasks. Environmental exposures include but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure, Bio-hazardous waste chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors, Communicable diseases, Electrical shock, Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation, Shift work, Travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
