General Summary
Supervises and coordinates activities of personnel engaged in a variety of functions which may include billing, credit and collection, cashiering, insurance and inquiry functions. Establishes and implements a billing and collection system in accordance with appropriate policies
Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
+ Establishes and implements a system for the collection of delinquent accounts. Collects accounts that are not paid in full at time of discharge or at promised date.
+ Responsible for government and third party billing, as well as patient and physician billing.
+ Keeps current on all reimbursement billing procedures of third party and private insurance payers.
+ Ensures appropriate submission, billing and payment cycles. Establishes appropriate procedures for follow up on third party approvals, billing and collection on overdue accounts.
+ Implements appropriate billing and collection procedures, ensuring that all accounts receivable records are kept in accordance with established procedures.
+ Ensures that appropriate policies, procedures and regulations for maintenance of financial records are followed including information needed for government audits.
+ Evaluates appropriate policies and procedures and makes recommendations for improvement. Initiates changes as needed.
+ Approves or disapproves extension of credit. May secure assignment of benefits or may recommend other sources of credit.
+ Interviews patients or responsible individuals to arrange methods of payment or extension of credit. Secures information relative to patient's financial status, evaluates credit history and determines payment dates and/or amounts based on patient's ability to pay and hospital policies.
+ Plans, conducts and supervises assigned projects.
+ Initiates review of third party payors as appropriate, coordinating with Payor Contracting and setting up payor meetings as needed.
Common Expectations:
+ Selects, trains/orients, assigns staff, evaluates performance, prepares work schedules and initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions.
+ Compiles data for and prepares regularly scheduled or special reports, analyses and statements
+ Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment and safety standards.
+ Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, inservice meetings, and workshops
+ Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.
Qualifications
Minimum Education:
+ High School Diploma or GED Required
+ Associates Degree Preferred
Work Experience:
+ 3 years Relevant experience. Required and
+ Supervisory experience. Required
Licenses:
+ Certified Patient Accounts Technician Upon Hire Preferred or
+ Certified Patient Accounts Manager Upon Hire Preferred
