Overview
Bowhead Transport is seeking a seasonal, land-based Marine Operations Laborer responsible for safely supporting cargo operations between May and October. This role performs various physical tasks as directed by the Cargo Operations team, including lashing cargo, maintaining cleanliness of barges and yard areas, assisting with minor forklift maintenance, and participating in spill response activities. Regular travel throughout Alaska is required during the operating season.
Responsibilities
Essential functions will include:
+ Perform all tasks assigned by the cargo operations group.
+ Lashing and securing cargo on the barge.
+ Daily housekeeping on the barges and in the yards.
+ Under the supervision of the Barge Master, perform minor preventive maintenance on various equipment.
+ Travel throughout Alaska between the months of April & October as required.
+ Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
+ Must have a valid Driver’s License.
+ Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test.
+ Must be able to pass an Air Force background check.
+ Ability to obtain a NSTC (North Slope Training Cooperative) certification and a BP Transit Badge.
+ Any experience in a labor-intensive job.
Physical and Mental Demands:
+ Repetitive movements of the neck, shoulder, wrist, and lower back.
+ Static postures of the neck, shoulders, wrist, and lower back.
+ Walking, sitting, standing, and climbing.
+ Handling of cables, chains, or hooks.
+ Must maintain situational awareness and respond to hand signals from other workers during object movement.
+ Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
+ Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, vibration, and high noise levels.
+ Walking on slippery and uneven surfaces.
Working Conditions:
+ Must be willing to work all shifts, including overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed.
+ Work may be performed in dusty environments and in all types of temperature and weather conditions.
+ May be assigned to remote work sites without immediate access to dispensary or hospital services.
+ Work environment varies and may include docks, ports, bays, beaches, waterways, office spaces, equipment rooms, warehouse facilities, construction zones, and other outdoor environments.
Applicants may be subject to a pre-employment drug & alcohol screening and/or random drug screen, and must follow UIC’s Non-DOT Drug & Alcohol Testing Program requirements. If the position requires, an applicant must pass a pre-employment criminal background history check. Where driving may be required or where a rental car must be obtained for business travel purposes, applicants must have a valid driver license for this position and will be subject to verification. In addition, the applicant must pass an in-house, online, driving course to be authorized to drive for company purposes.
