Job Summary and Qualifications

POSITION SUMMARY: Plan, organize and direct front office activities to assure smooth flow of patient registration and accurate submission of billing information.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential core function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, experience, and ability necessary to perform this job.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:

+ Schedules new patient and follow-up appointments with appropriate physician.

+ Accurately gathers confidential patient demographics and financial data; assembles patient charts in the prescribed order.

+ Greets patients and answers phone in a polite courteous manner, takes messages and / or physician referrals.

+ Promptly admits patients, obtaining necessary signatures, copies of insurance cards, insurance verification, authorization numbers, and pre-certifications.

+ Assists patients in understanding their insurance coverage, filing requirements, and financial responsibility.

+ As appropriate, works with physician offices by supplying patient insurance and other required information.

+ Accurately enters billing / charge information into computer system.

+ Assists with volunteer training

+ When necessary assists clinical staff by escorting patients to exam rooms & in some cases “turning over the room”.

+ Annually demonstrated competency per department skills validation checklist.

EDUCATION REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED:

• High school diploma or equivalent required

• Applicable work experience may substitute for education

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

• None

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED OR PREFERRED:

• 1-3 years previous healthcare registration and / or billing experience preferred

• Advanced computer skills
