Position Details
General Statement
Montana State University seeks qualified individuals to provide non-tenurable level instruction and/or related functions. Instructors are needed to teach classes depending upon need and available funding.
Applications are accepted on a continual basis (unless otherwise indicated) and will be maintained in pool for two years. After two years, candidates will be notified to re-submit materials for continued consideration.
The department or program search committees or hiring authority will review and evaluate the submitted application materials. Applicants will be notified if their application is being retained in the non-tenure track faculty hiring pool.
Appointments are on a part-time basis and vary in duration, a couple weeks, a semester or an academic year, depending on the specific needs of the department/program. Salary is dependent on number of courses taught and duration.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Department seeks an Assistant Teaching Professor or Instructor qualified to teach one or more of the following courses in Psychology, depending on available funding: Research Design and Analysis I, Research Design and Analysis II, Abnormal Psychology, Psychology of Gender, Social Psychology, Psychology of Personality, Judgment and Decision Making, Consciousness, History and Systems, Contemporary Issues in Human Sexuality, Psychology of Learning, Behavior Modification, Psychology of Prejudice, Developmental Psychology, Health Psychology, and Senior Thesis/Capstone.
+ Teaching on-campus or online courses.
+ Advising, evaluating and assisting students.
+ Curriculum and/or course development.
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
+ MA/MS/ ABD in Psychology or closely allied field.
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
+ PhD in Psychology.
+ College-level teaching experience in a face-to-face lecture format.
+ Academic background commensurate with teaching one or more of the courses listed above.

The Program
The Department
The Psychology Department has 14 tenure/tenure-track faculty, several non-tenure track faculty, and approximately 600 students. Class sizes typically range from 25-170 students.
The Department teaches with an emphasis on psychological science and offers a BS in Psychology, a research-oriented PhD in Psychological Science, and provides excellent undergraduate learning experiences to majors, minors, and the broader university.
