    Duties Description 1.Coordinate environmental education programs at Reinstein Woods Nature Preserve & Environmental Education Center.a.Receive all requests for tours, programs, and room reservations. Schedule staff and volunteers; distribute and process confirmations, pre- and post-lesson materials, and evaluations. As needed, coordinate Connect Kids paperwork, and coordinate invoicing with Friends of Reinstein Woods' Office Manager.b.Ensure interns, volunteers and staff have the most up-to-date curricula to lead environmental education programs for school, youth, and scout groups, including pre- and post- lesson materials for teachers.c.Working with staff, select seasonal slate of environmental education programs to target a range of audiences (youth, adults, diverse populations, etc.). Schedule staff and volunteers to implement regularly scheduled public tours and programs such as Woods Walks. Prepare schedule and arrange for printing and online posting. Send out DEC email announcement.d.Coordinate efforts to update/maintain signage and seating areas throughout the preserve, including working with designers/printers in DEC's Albany office, DEC's sign shop, and Regional Operations.e.Prepare and implement programs on various environmental education topics, including some teacher education programs.2.Coordinate Environmental Education Intern Program.a.Recruit, select and hire interns.b.Supervise daily activities of interns, including training, scheduling, and implementing a final project. Coordinate intern housing needs.3.Supervise Staffa.Supervise daily activities of Environmental Educator 1 who implements the Camp Rushford campership program and the Environmental Education Assistant who coordinates the volunteer program.4.Coordinate and implement volunteer Nature Guide, Greeter & Project FeederWatch programs.a.Prepare, schedule, and advertise trainings for new guides, greeters & FeederWatch. Lead training & evaluate success of each session.b.Schedule guides and greeters as needed. Communicate new information to greeters/guides on program, curriculum, and policy changes on a regular basis to ensure they have all relevant information needed to successfully contribute to the program.5.Perform administrative tasks necessary to implement the Reinstein Woods environmental education program, including:a.Recording data on program attendance, trail and building visitation, demographic information on groups, etc. Maintaining other records such as site species list and research data.b.Performing "building duty," assisting with coordinating special events and other administrative duties/projects as requested. In the absence of the Center Director, assume command of the center.c.Maintaining generic Reinstein Woods email accounts and the Reinstein Woods pages on the DEC website.

     

    Minimum Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. To be eligible for appointment under NY HELPS, candidates must meet the non-competitive minimum qualifications below:Non-competitive qualifications:Four years of experience in environmental conservation in a professional or technical capacity or professional teaching of environmental education and two years of experience teaching about or interpreting the natural world.* An associate degree in a related field can substitute for two years of environmental conservation experience; a bachelor’s degree in a related field can substitute for four years of environmental conservation experience.Competitive qualificationsReassignment - Currently in the title and an employee of DECorReinstatement Eligible - Previously held the title on a permanent competitive basis or held a title as indicated under the transfer eligible section on a permanent competitive basis.OrEligible for transfer under Section 70.1: One year of permanent competitive service as a Public Participation Specialist 1Or55-b/55-c -Candidates must meet the open competitive minimum qualifications below and include with their resume or application, a copy of the letter from Civil Service which indicates approval for the 55-b/55-c program.Open competitive minimum qualifications (provided for 55b/c candidates): Four years of experience in environmental conservation in a professional or technical capacity or professional teaching of environmental education and two years of experience teaching about or interpreting the natural world.* An associate degree in a related field can substitute for two years of environmental conservation experience; a bachelor’s degree in a related field can substitute for four years of environmental conservation experience.

     

    Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.Travel may be required.Overtime may be required.
