**Job Title:** Software Development Engineer

**Pay Range:** $67.00/hr. - $73.00/hr.

Summary:

The main function of Software Development Engineer 5 is to provide senior level technical leadership in architecture, design, development, testing, and evaluation of large-scale software systems, cloud services, and AI powered applications. An SDE5 research, designs, and implements advanced distributed systems and full stack solutions leveraging Azure, modern web technologies, and agentic AI. This role requires deep expertise in AI engineering, including LLM integration, retrieval augmented generation (RAG), grounding techniques, and Microsoft’s M365 Agent ecosystem to build secure, reliable, and high impact intelligent applications for enterprise and business critical scenarios.

Job Responsibilities:

+ Lead architecture, design, and implementation of cloud native, full stack, and AI powered solutions using Azure, .NET, JavaScript/TypeScript, and distributed systems patterns.

+ Provide deep technical guidance for implementing LLM powered features, agentic AI patterns, grounding strategies, RAG pipelines, and AI orchestration frameworks.

+ Review, approve, and oversee the design and modification of cloud architectures, microservices, data stores, and enterprise integration systems.

+ Direct engineering teams in defining scope, technical requirements, delivery milestones, and integration plans across multiple feature areas.

+ Evaluate and approve designs involving M365 Agent, Microsoft Graph, semantic orchestration, and enterprise scale AI deployments.

+ Plan, coordinate, and implement security, compliance, resiliency, and telemetry practices across systems handling AI powered workflows.

+ Approve, schedule, and supervise deployments, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and operational improvements for cloud and AI systems.

+ Develop engineering standards, best practices, performance guidelines, and coding principles that ensure secure, scalable, and maintainable systems.

+ Drive hands on troubleshooting, performance tuning, and incident response for live services, including AI model evaluations and reliability tuning.

+ Collaborate deeply with Microsoft product groups and cross functional engineering teams to deliver integrated M365, Azure, and AI capabilities.

+ Mentor engineers, guide architectural decisions, and raise technical quality across the engineering organization.

Skills

+ Expert verbal and written communication skills; ability to articulate complex AI and cloud architecture decisions to technical and non-technical audiences.

+ Expert ability to work independently, lead technical decision making, and drive engineering execution across multiple parallel workstreams.

+ Deep expertise in AI engineering, including:

• LLM integration (OpenAI, Azure OpenAI)

• Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) patterns

• Grounding, semantic search, embeddings, and evaluation pipelines

• Agentic AI principles, orchestration, and tool interaction design

• M365 Agent ecosystem, Graph APIs, and Copilot extensibility

+ Expert knowledge of full software development lifecycle including architecture, requirements, design, development, testing, deployment, and operations.

+ Expert troubleshooting/debugging skills across distributed systems, cloud environments, AI agents, and application layers.

+ Expert knowledge of C#, .NET, JavaScript/TypeScript, REST APIs, microservices, and cloud native design patterns.

+ Deep hands-on knowledge of Azure services: Web Apps, Functions, Service Bus, Event Hub, API Management, Cosmos DB, SQL, storage, monitoring, and observability.

+ Strong understanding of cloud security, identity, data protection, compliance, and enterprise operational requirements.

+ Advanced mentoring and leadership abilities to guide senior engineers and improve engineering culture and maturity.

Top 3 Hard Skills Required + Years of Experience

1. Minimum 1+ years’ experience with AI Engineering & Agentic AI

+ Hands on experience building AI powered features using LLMs, RAG pipelines, grounding techniques, embeddings, and agentic AI patterns.

+ Experience designing, rearchitecting, or extending M365 Agents or similar enterprise AI agents

2. ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Minimum 8+ years’ experience with Azure Cloud Architecture & Distributed Systems

+ Deep expertise designing and implementing scalable, secure, cloud native applications using Azure PaaS (Functions, Web Apps, Service Bus, Event Hub, Cosmos DB, SQL, Storage).

+ Strong knowledge of microservices, event driven patterns, observability, and DevOps/CI CD.

3. Minimum 10+ years’ experience with Full Stack Software Engineering

+ Advanced proficiency in C#, .NET, JavaScript/TypeScript, REST API design, and modern web frameworks.

+ Proven ability to architect, build, and productionize large scale enterprise systems.

Education/Experience:

+ Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or related technical field required, master’s preferred.

+ 12+ years of experience designing and shipping enterprise grade software or cloud services.

+ 10+ years building full stack applications using Microsoft or equivalent web technologies.

+ 8+ years architecting solutions in Azure or equivalent large scale cloud platforms.

+ 3+ years of hands-on experience with AI engineering, LLM integration, RAG, grounding, or agentic AI systems (M365 Agent experience strongly preferred).

+ Proven track record of delivering complex, high impact software systems in fast paced engineering organizations.

**Typical task breakdown and operating rhythm** :

+ A typical day for a Software Development Engineer 5 involves leading technical design discussions, driving the architecture of full stack and cloud native systems, and implementing advanced AI capabilities using LLMs, RAG, grounding, and agentic AI patterns.

+ The engineer collaborates with cross functional teams to define requirements, review code, and unblock technical challenges. They build and refine AI powered features, integrate with the M365 Agent ecosystem, and ensure high quality, secure, and scalable software delivery.

+ Daily activities include sprint planning, design reviews, hands on development, troubleshooting cloud services, optimizing AI model performance, and mentoring engineers to elevate technical excellence across the team.

**Location Requirements** : Fully Remote Domestic US Sourcing, candidates must work standard PST business hours however there is some flexibility for candidates that can work MST business hours since there is only one hour of time difference.
