Position Summary
The Automotive Bench Test Technician is responsible for performing bench-level testing and validation of automotive components and systems. This role involves setting up test fixtures, executing test procedures, troubleshooting issues, and accurately documenting test results in support of engineering, quality, and customer requirements.
Must-Have Skills & Qualifications
Strong understanding of automotive electrical and electronic fundamentals
Experience performing bench-level testing of automotive components
Ability to use test and measurement equipment, including:
Multimeters
Power supplies
Oscilloscopes (basic to intermediate)
Signal generators
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and test procedures
Excellent attention to detail with accurate documentation of test results
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
Ability to follow standard work instructions and test plans
Key Responsibilities
Set up and execute bench tests according to defined procedures and test plans
Configure test fixtures, wiring, and equipment for component and system testing
Perform functional, performance, and validation testing
Troubleshoot failures and identify root causes during testing
Accurately document test data, observations, and results
Communicate test status, issues, and results to engineering and quality teams
Maintain organized test areas and ensure proper handling of test equipment
Support continuous improvement of test processes and procedures
Preferred Skills
Experience testing ECUs, modules, sensors, actuators, or infotainment systems
Familiarity with automotive communication protocols (CAN, LIN, etc.)
Experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) or automated test environments
Exposure to OEM or Tier 1 validation standards
Basic scripting or programming experience (Python, CAPL, LabVIEW – a plus)
Physical & Work Requirements
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
Ability to lift and move test equipment or components (up to 25–50 pounds, as required)
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
