Job Title: Mechanical Engineer
Job Description
Seeking a talented individual with expertise in product design and mechanical engineering to join a dynamic team focused on designing electronic packaging solutions for handheld, tablet, and human-machine interface applications. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of printed circuit board layout mechanicals and mechanical design for rugged applications, as well as a keen interest in exploring innovative technologies in embedded electronics.
Responsibilities
+ Design mechanical subsystems and components from concept through mass production, considering environmental factors, human factors, manufacturability, and cost.
+ Document designs with drawings and manage bills of material (BOM), ensuring traceability in PDM and ERP systems.
+ Test and validate mechanical designs against requirements, including conducting first article inspections (FAI).
+ Design mechanical fixtures for production test infrastructure, suitable for high volume mass production.
+ Monitor manufacturing and assembly quality, actively engaging in continuous improvement activities.
+ Manage manufacturer and vendor relationships, both domestic and international, and handle initial material requirements planning for prototypes.
+ Interface with global teams, managing design tradeoffs and reporting schedule and cost details to project management.
Essential Skills
+ 3+ years of experience designing products for manufacturability and assembly, preferably using SolidWorks.
+ Solid understanding of product design and mechanical engineering for electronic packaging solutions.
+ Working knowledge of printed circuit board layout mechanicals and mechanical design for rugged applications.
+ Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or a related technical field.
+ Experience with 3D CAD, preferably SolidWorks.
+ Working knowledge of various manufacturing processes, including injection molded plastics, sheet or machined metal designs, and 3D rapid manufacturing processes.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Design for manufacturing (DFM) and six sigma/lean principles.
+ Expertise in human factors/user experience design and/or industrial design.
+ Experience with design for rugged applications (MIL-STD-810, IPxx, ATEX, etc).
+ Knowledge of electromechanical assemblies, including LCDs, batteries, antennas, PCBs, and buttons.
+ Experience with Product Data Management (PDM) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) tools, specifically SolidWorks and SAP.
+ Experience working under ISO9001 and/or AS9100 quality systems and ITAR export controls.
Work Environment
This role is based in Rockville, MD, and requires working fully in-person within a small, multi-disciplinary team. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rockville, MD.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $110000.00/hr.
