    Job Title: Harness TechnicianJob Description

     

    We are seeking a skilled Harness Technician responsible for harness drawing reviews, parts selection, fabrication, assembly, and testing of spacecraft harnessing. The role involves performing tasks such as soldering, crimping, splicing, staking, torquing, pull testing, and hi-pot testing, while maintaining high-quality standards and documentation. Additionally, the technician will provide guidance to less experienced technicians.

    Responsibilities

    + Assemble and test spacecraft harnesses according to engineering drawings and industry standards.

    + Strip, torque, stake, and terminate wires to required lengths, ensuring bend radii needs are maintained.

    + Perform hi-pot and pull testing of harnessing.

    + Utilize hand tools, crimping tools, soldering equipment, and other relevant machinery for assembly and testing.

    + Maintain strong attention to detail and work independently with minimal supervision.

    + Troubleshoot wiring issues effectively and solve problems as they arise.

    + Communicate effectively with team members and other departments.

    + Ensure compliance with processes and cleanroom protocols by all personnel.

    + Review harness drawings prior to release to confirm BOM and overall design.

    + Provide guidance to technicians on harness fabrication, crimping, soldering, and testing.

    Essential Skills

    + Proficiency in soldering.

    + Active IPC/WHMA-A-620 Space Addendum (IPC620) or IPC J-STD-001 Space Addendum certifications.

    + Proficiency in using hand tools, crimping tools, and soldering equipment.

    + Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + At least 5 years of experience in building wiring harnesses, ideally in the aviation and/or aerospace industry.

    + Certified in J-Std and IPC-620 with Space Addendum.

    + Experience with harness installation onto spacecraft.

    + Proficiency in reading drawings, process sheets, and instructions.

    + Experience with ESD, FOD, and 100k cleanroom operations.

    + Passion for the space industry.

    + Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.

    + Ability to work autonomously with minimal input or management oversight.

    + Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    + Proficiency in using MS Word and Excel.

    Work Environment

    This position is onsite in Sterling, with flexible hours available. Part-time commitments are also accommodated. The work environment involves working in a production setting for extended periods, with tasks including sitting, standing, and handling small components. The ability to lift and move materials up to 50 lbs briefly is required.

    This is a Contract position based out of Sterling, VA.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr.
