SUMMER AQUATICS EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

DEPARTMENT OF RECREATION AND HUMAN SERVICES

DEADLINE FOR SUMMER AQUATICS APPLICATIONS IS JULY 6, 2026.

Applications will be accepted through that date on the City's website www.cityofrochester.gov or in Room 103A, City Hall, 30 Church Street, Rochester, NY 14614. LIFEGUARD/Seasonal: $20.60/Hour &

BEACH LIFEGUARD/Seasonal: $20.82/Hour

Responsibilities include: Stand watch or patrol beach or swimming pool; Keep bathers within bounds and go to their aid when they are in difficulty;

Maintain order and compliance with beach or pool rules; Administer first aid and CPR as required.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be 15 years of age at time of appointment for Lifeguard. Must be 16 years of age for Beach Lifeguard. Must possess current American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and Lifeguard certifications or equivalent certifications as recognized by the New York State Department of Health at time of appointment. (When assigned to a position at Durand Eastman Beach, the incumbent will be required to obtain an Open Water Module certification and complete a Department arranged kayak training course.)

LIFEGUARD LIEUTENANT/Seasonal: $20.87/Hour &

BEACH LIFEGUARD LIEUTENANT/Seasonal: $21.08-21.27/Hour

Responsibilities include: Supervising the work of at least one lifeguard and one or more additional summer staff members; Stand watch or patrol beach or swimming pool; Keep bathers within bounds and go to their aid when they are in difficulty; Report staff problems, accidents, and unsafe acts to supervisor for follow-up; Enforce city and Bureau safety policies through regular inspections of facilities and equipment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Two (2) months full-time experience as lifeguard.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be 17 years of age at time of appointment. Must possess current American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and Lifeguard certifications or equivalent certifications as recognized by the New York State Department of Health at time of appointment. (When assigned to a position at Durand Eastman Beach, the incumbent will be required to obtain an Open Water Module certification and complete a Department arranged kayak training course.)

LIFEGUARD CAPTAIN/Seasonal: $21.73-$23.13/Hour &

BEACH LIFEGUARD CAPTAIN/Seasonal: $22.19 - $23.59/Hour

Responsibilities include: Supervising a group of lifeguards and summer staff members in the patrol of a swimming facility or beach; maintaining subordinates work and break schedules to ensure safe coverage of assigned swimming facility or beach; Enforce City and Bureau safety policies through regular inspections of facilities and equipment; Train and counsel subordinates in safety practices; Prepares simple reports.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Two (2) months full-time paid experience as a lifeguard PLUS Two (2) months full-time paid experience supervising lifeguards.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be 18 years of age at time of appointment. Must possess current Water Safety Instructor, American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and Lifeguard certifications or equivalent certifications as recognized by the New York State Department of Health at time of appointment. (When assigned to a position at Durand Eastman Beach, the incumbent will be required to obtain an Open Water Module certification and complete a Department arranged kayak training course.)

LOCKER ROOM ATTENDANT/Seasonal: $17.02/Hour

Responsible for maintaining cleanliness, order, and security within the locker room for patrons. Performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : High school diploma or G.E.D.

POOL ATTENDANT/Seasonal: $16.89/Hour

Responsible for supervising locker room, distributing keys, and enforcing rules and regulations. Related work is performed as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Three (3) months experience supervising adults or children OR three (3) months experience as a security guard.

ASSISTANT POOL MANAGER/Seasonal: $23.37-$24.77/Hour

This position is responsible for the safe operation of an aquatic facility or beach. Work is performed under the direct supervision of a pool supervisor or other high level recreation staff member. Supervision is exercised over seasonal employees. Performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or G.E.D. AND four (4) months experience supervising lifeguards and providing instruction to swimmers at all levels.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a current American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, Lifeguard, and Water Safety Instructor Certifications or equivalent certifications as recognized by the New York State Department of Health. Must be 19 years of age at time of appointment. When assigned to a position at a beach, incumbent will be required to complete a department arranged open water module and kayak training course.

BEACH MANAGER/Seasonal: $27.91/Hour

T his position is responsible for the maintenance and safe operation of a beach front. The incumbent trains and supervises aquatics, security, and grounds maintenance personnel assigned to the beach. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Coordinator of Athletics and Aquatics or other higher level recreational staff. Related work is performed as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma or GED AND Six (6) months experience supervising lifeguards

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of the following current American Red Cross or equivalent certifications as recognized by the New York State Department of Health at time of appointment: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for the Professional Rescuer, Lifeguard/First Aid, Open Water Module, Water Safety Instructor Certifications. Must complete a department arranged kayak training course (within (1) one month of appointment). Must be 19 years of age at time of appointment.

ASSISTANT BEACH MANAGER/Seasonal: $23.37-$24.77/Hour

This position is responsible for the maintenance and safe operation of a beach front. The incumbent assists the Beach Manager in the supervision of aquatics, security and grounds maintenance personnel assigned to the beach. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Beach Manager or the Coordinator of Athletics and Aquatics. Supervision is exercised over seasonal employees. Related work is performed as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or G.E.D. AND four (4) months experience supervising lifeguards.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of the following current American Red Cross or equivalent certifications as recognized by the New York State Department of Health at time of appointment: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for the Professional Rescuer, Lifeguard/First Aid, Open Water Module, Water Safety Instructor Certifications. GROUND EQUIPMENT OPERATOR/Seasonal: $18.99/Hour

This is a grounds maintenance position involving upkeep of lawns, trees, shrubs, flowerbeds, sidewalks, driveways, and out-buildings. The employee may operate grounds motorized equipment or light weight trucks in tending the lawns and in hauling materials and refuse. Work involves manual labor and is performed in good weather or in bad weather such as extremes of heat, cold, and humidity. General supervision is received from a higher ranking employee. Performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Six (6) months of paid, full-time experience (or its part-time equivalent) in the operation of vehicles and equipment used in ground maintenance

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid New York State Class D Driver license at time of appointment. This license must be maintained throughout employment in this title.
