*The University of Maryland School of Medicine*is currently recruiting for a*Contractual**Research Assistant. The position will*perform biomedical research in the*laboratory of Dr. Michy Kelly in the Department of Neurobiology.* The Research Assistant will conduct experiments involving mouse behavior, ex vivo molecular, and biochemical analyses of mouse brains, and will also contribute to mouse colony maintenance and laboratory publications. Occasional weekend or holiday work will be required. All employees are expected to work primarily physically within the State of Maryland.* *Primary Duties:* * Perform routine laboratory maintenance and research activities such as: performing cell culture experiments that examine the effect of recombinant DNA and/or pharmacological tools; executing molecular/biochemical analyses using techniques such as immunofluorescence, in situ hybridization, microscopy, etc.; tissue processing (e.g., cryosectioning, homogenizing, etc.), performing protein purification, conducting mouse colony maintenance and behavioral studies. * Compile and analyze research data using various relevant computer software applications and contribute to laboratory publications * Create scientific posters, abstracts, and manuscripts. * Perform administrative duties such as: training and guiding students and/or other laboratory technicians; ordering supplies, maintaining lab stockpiles (e.g., buffers), keeping the laboratory environment orderly and clean. * Perform other duties as assigned. *Education:*Bachelor’s degree in neuroscience, biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, biomedical sciences, or a related field or discipline. *Preferred Experience:*One (1) year of laboratory research experience. Experience with mouse behavior, colony maintenance, ex vivo molecular/biochemical techniques and drafting scientific publications. *Other:*May consider a combination of directly related experience and education. May require training related to occupational safety and health, environmental compliance, shipping of hazardous materials and/or ionizing radiation. Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 undergraduate college credits being equivalent to one year of related experience.
