Position Summary
The Medical Assistant (MA) is a key member of the clinical care team, providing high-quality, patient-centered care under the supervision of licensed providers and the office manager. The MA supports clinical operations in a team-based, integrative care environment, ensures efficient patient flow, maintains patient safety, and communicates effectively with patients and staff. All duties are performed in accordance with NYS guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical & Patient Care
+ Prepare exam rooms and equipment; maintain supplies, medications, and vaccines.
+ Greet, identify, and escort patients; explain role and procedures.
+ Collect and document patient data including vitals, medications, allergies, and chief complaints.
+ Perform pre-visit planning and identify gaps in care.
+ Assist providers with in-office procedures and diagnostic testing (e.g., EKGs, lab collection).
+ Collect, process, and document laboratory specimens; maintain quality control logs.
+ Monitor EHR messages, health reminders, and diagnostic testing per provider direction.
+ Provide age-appropriate patient education and coordinate referrals, procedures, and prior authorizations.
+ Uphold infection control, safety, and aseptic techniques at all times.
Practice Operations
+ Support efficient patient flow and clinical operations.
+ Maintain equipment, exam rooms, and supply inventory.
+ Ensure proper disposal of biohazard and infectious waste.
+ Participate in team huddles, staff meetings, and performance improvement initiatives.
+ Assist with onboarding and orientation of new staff.
+ Perform other duties as assigned.
Post-Visit Duties
+ Clean and reset exam rooms.
+ Perform CLIA-waived lab testing per NYS and OSHA guidelines.
+ Adhere to infection control, safety standards, and emergency procedures.
Scope of Practice
Medical Assistants may not diagnose, treat, triage, administer medications or injections, interpret test results, perform imaging, or assist in surgery, in accordance with NYS regulations.
Qualifications & Skills
+ Completion of a NYS-accredited Medical Assistant program.
+ High School Diploma or GED required.
+ Current BCLS certification (AHA, in-person only).
+ National MA certification preferred.
+ Proficiency in phlebotomy, EHR systems, clinical procedures, and aseptic technique.
+ Strong communication, organization, and multitasking skills.
