THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As a Geoscience Trainee , you will participate in a one-year training period learning the job duties of a Geoscientist. You will gain experience analyzing and resolving hydrogeologic program issues through a detailed review of data in both field and office settings in support of the Environmental Cleanup Program. Work includes administration of the Hazardous Sites Cleanup Act, relevant portions of the Land Recycling and Environmental Remediation Standards Act, the Storage Tank and Spill Prevention Act, the Pennsylvania Clean Streams Law and the Solid Waste Management regulations.
Specific duties include developing and conducting hydrogeologic investigations in response to groundwater and soil contamination complaints, pollution incidents, permit applications, and activities, which have a potential to pollute groundwater resources. You will learn how to resolve hydrogeologic situations and unique groundwater pollution problems, as well as identify sources of groundwater contamination and approving necessary remedial measures for all assigned groundwater pollution cases. You will further learn the process for compiling hydrogeologic and geologic data, performing hydrogeologic mapping through field and laboratory investigations, and preparing hydrogeologic reports.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
+ Full-time employment
+ Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
+ Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Williamsport. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
+ Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $57,995.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
+ A bachelor's degree in geology, geophysics, geochemistry, engineering geology, or a closely related field including or supplemented by 30 college credits in geologic coursework ;or
+ Possession of an active Geologist-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists ;or
+ An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes 30 college credits in geologic coursework.
+ Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.
Special Requirements:
+ This position requires possession and maintenance of an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent.
