Data Scientist- Mid Level  Job Description Summary:

Seeking a Data Scientist to support D&G Solutions and the U.S. Transportation Command's (USTRANSCOM) mission as the Single Manager for Global Bulk Fuel Management and Delivery (GBFMD). The Data Scientist will analyze and interpret complex data from the Joint Petroleum Enterprise (JPE) to uncover actionable insights, build predictive models, and create data visualizations. This role is crucial for enhancing the Global Common Operating Picture and other critical bulk fuel IT tools, directly contributing to the effectiveness of DoD missions worldwide.   Roles & Responsibilities:

+ Data Analysis & Modeling: Perform exploratory data analysis, build, and deploy machine learning models to identify trends, forecast demand, and optimize logistics within the JPE.

+ Insight Generation: Translate complex findings into clear, actionable recommendations for stakeholders through reports, dashboards, and presentations.

+ Common Operating Picture Support: Collaborate with data engineers to access and prepare data from Databricks and Palantir's Ontology for analysis and visualization.

+ JPE Data Set Support: Analyze JPE data sources to identify opportunities for deeper analysis and insight. Assist in defining data requirements for ingestion and API development to ensure data is fit for analytical purposes.

+ Stakeholder Collaboration: Actively participate in working groups and meetings to contribute to data-driven strategies, tool selection, and discussions on analytical requirements.

+ Project Support: Contribute to GBFMD equities presentations for USTRANSCOM, Joint Staff (JS), and Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) governance boards as needed. Complete ad hoc analytical projects as assigned by leadership.

Requirements:

+ Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Data Engineering, or a related field.

+ 5+ years of experience in data engineering or a related role.

+ Strong proficiency in SQL and Python.

+ Experience with data pipeline development using tools like Apache Spark, Kafka, or similar.

+ Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).

+ Experience with Databricks/Lakehouse

+ Experience with Palantir Ontology is a plus.

+ Ability to travel within CONUS, approximately 10% of the time.

Eligibility Requirements:

+ DoD SECRET Clearance with eligibility for TS/SCI

+ This role is restricted to U.S. person(s) (ie., U.S. citizens, permanent residents and other protected individuals under the immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3))

Desired Skills:

+ Experience with data warehousing and ETL processes, and data modeling techniques.

+ Proficiency with machine learning frameworks.

+ Experience with API development and RESTful web services.

+ Experience with Maven Smart Systems or similar platforms.

+ Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

+ Ability to work in a fast-paced, agile environment and quickly learn new technologies.

+ Experience working with DoD, DLA, or USTRANSCOM.

Location:

+ ONSITE- This position is required to be on-site at Scott AFB, Illinois.

+ Required travel within CONUS, approximately 10% of the time.
