Senior Strategic Advisor (Part-Time, 0.4 FTE)
Schedule: Part-Time (approximately 2 days per week; ~16 hours/week)
Reports To: President & Chief Executive Officer
The Senior Strategic Advisor serves as a trusted, enterprise-level advisor to the President and Chief Executive Officer of Albany Med Health System (AMHS), providing strategic counsel and execution support on system-wide physician enterprise strategy, ambulatory growth, and integrated delivery system initiatives.
This role is designed for a highly experienced healthcare executive with deep clinical and system leadership background. The Advisor operates in an advisory capacity only, without line management or operational authority, and supports AMHS leadership in advancing strategic priorities that span academic medicine, community-based care, and regional integration.
The position is part-time at 0.4 FTE, structured to ensure continuity, institutional insight, and senior-level strategic engagement while maintaining clear boundaries on scope, authority, and time commitment.
Key Responsibilities
Enterprise Strategy & Physician Enterprise Advisory
+ Advise the CEO and senior executive leadership on enterprise-wide physician strategy, including alignment of academic faculty practice and community-based physician organizations.
+ Provide strategic perspective on physician engagement, clinical integration, governance models, and operating structures that support quality, access, and system sustainability.
+ Support leadership discussions related to physician compensation, productivity frameworks, and incentive alignment, offering advisory input consistent with system strategy.
Physician Enterprise Mergers, Acquisitions & Strategic Affiliations
+ Provide advisory support to executive leadership in identifying, evaluating, and prioritizing physician-enterprise-related acquisitions, affiliations, and strategic investments.
+ Contribute clinical, operational, and physician-alignment insight to transaction due diligence activities.
+ Advise on post-transaction physician integration planning, including leadership structure, cultural alignment, and performance expectations.
Ambulatory Growth & System Integration (One Albany Med)
+ Advise on the development and execution of ambulatory growth strategies aligned with AMHS clinical, academic, and financial objectives.
+ Provide strategic input on access, site-of-care optimization, specialty expansion, and regional network development.
+ Support system-wide integration efforts consistent with the One Albany Med framework, including alignment across academic and community care settings.
Executive Engagement & Advisory Support
+ Participate in executive workgroups, planning sessions, and selected leadership or board-level discussions at the request of the CEO.
+ Serve as a thought partner to senior leaders on complex, cross-cutting strategic issues.
+ Provide periodic updates, insights, and informal advisory feedback to support leadership decision-making.
Scope & Authority
+ This role is advisory in nature and does not include line management, operational control, or decision-making authority.
+ The Senior Strategic Advisor does not supervise employees, direct clinical operations, or bind the organization contractually.
+ All strategic, operational, clinical, and governance decisions remain the responsibility of AMHS leadership.
Time Commitment & Work Structure
+ Part-Time: 0.4 FTE (approximately 16 hours per week; typically two days per week).
+ Schedule may be flexible and coordinated with the CEO based on organizational priorities.
+ Work may be performed on-site, remotely, or in a hybrid format.
+ Any work beyond the standard 0.4 FTE expectation requires advance approval by the CEO.
Qualifications:
Required
+ MD, DO, or equivalent advanced clinical degree.
+ 20+ years of progressive leadership experience in an academic medical center, integrated delivery system, or large regional health system.
+ Demonstrated experience in physician enterprise strategy, system integration, and clinical network development.
+ Proven ability to operate at the enterprise executive level and advise senior leadership on complex strategic issues.
+ Strong interpersonal skills, credibility with physicians and executives, and ability to navigate sensitive organizational dynamics.
Preferred
+ Prior experience as a senior executive (e.g., EVP, SVP, Chief Medical Officer, or equivalent).
+ Experience supporting or leading physician practice mergers, affiliations, or strategic partnerships.
+ Deep understanding of academic medicine, community-based care models, and regional health system integration.
Compensation & Benefits
+ This is a part-time (0.4 FTE) position.
+ Compensation is structured as a fixed part-time salary commensurate with experience, scope, and market benchmarks.
+ The position is not eligible for incentive compensation tied to volume or value of referrals.
+ Benefits eligibility, if any, will be determined in accordance with AMHS part-time employee policies.

+ The role is designed to comply with all applicable healthcare laws and regulations, including Stark Law and Anti-Kickback Statute requirements.
+ Compensation reflects fair market value for the services provided and is commercially reasonable.
+ The position does not involve clinical practice, referral requirements, or performance metrics tied to business generation.
