    The Electrician position in the Signals & Street Lighting (SSL) section of PBOT's Traffic Systems and Operations team involves maintaining and repairing the city's extensive traffic systems, including over 1,100 traffic signals,55,000+ streetlights, 100 rectangular rapid flash beacons, 170 school beacons, and various communication components. The position requires working in all weather conditions, including inclement weather. This is an essential role, requiring the employee to report to work regardless of weather conditions or city office closures.

    What you’ll get to do:

    + Build, install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair traffic signal and street lighting systems

    + Install conduit and pull wire

    + Perform work out of a bucket truck over and alongside moving traffic while ensuring safety through traffic control and flagging.

    + An Ideal Candidate will have at least 5 years of professional electrical experience as a General Journeyman Electrician and some experience working on traffic signal and street lighting systems.

    The City of Portland Bureau of Environmental Services is seeking an Electrician to join our dynamic Electrical and Instrumentation (E&I) Program team within the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Group. The purpose of the E&I Program is to maintain wastewater and stormwater treatment systems at the wastewater treatment plants and pump stations to meet the required levels of service while minimizing asset life-cycle costs at an acceptable level of risk.

     

    This position provides critical support to the E&I program in addressing electrical and automation issues for various equipment and systems related to the treatment and conveyance of wastewater and stormwater at the Columbia Boulevard Wastewater Treatment Plant (CBWTP), the Tryon Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant (TCWTP), the Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) system, and 98 pump stations located across the city.

     

    Under general direction of the E&I Manager, this position will perform electrical and equipment installations; troubleshoot, repair and maintain electrical and automation systems; respond to failures and emergencies involving electrical systems; ensure that repairs, installations, and work procedures are safe and that equipment operates properly; perform diagnostic and analytical tests, including those for programmable logic controllers (PLCs); maintain work records and equipment supplies/spares; and plan & organize work assignments and activities.

     

    Electricians in the Bureau are considered Essential Employees and participate in a weeklong on-call rotation to respond to off-hour issues/emergencies.

The Operations and Maintenance Group is an organizational unit within BES that protects public health, water quality, and the environment by operating, maintaining, and administering wastewater and stormwater collection, pumping, and treatment systems and managing related programs.     + Experience and skill in performing repair, troubleshooting, maintenance, modification, and installation of automation systems involving Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), single point controllers, setpoint relays, Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS), and communications networks.
