    The Safety and Emergency Response Unit is dedicated to ensuring the highest standards of safety and emergency preparedness within our organization. Our Safety & Emergency Response Unit develops and delivers training programs in the areas of occupational and environmental safety, safety awareness, fire prevention and evacuation, and emergency response/ employee preparedness. Our unit equips personnel with the knowledge and skills required to effectively manage safety protocols and respond to emergencies set by OSHA and other regulatory agencies.

     

    The training unit is looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic supervisor to become a Safety & Emergency response trainer. This role requires a strong commitment to fostering a culture of safety and ensuring compliance with industry regulations. The selected candidate will be attending vendor training, and performing administrative tasks and duties as required to meet the unit’s business needs. The Safety & Emergency Response training unit supports all levels of employees within the Department of Subways (DOS), Department of Buses (DOB), and Staten Island Railway (SIR). The instructor will interact with hourly, supervisory and management employees.

     

    POSITION IS OPEN ONLY TO CURRENT MTA/NYCT EMPLOYEES IN THE TITLE OF MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR II, STATION SUPERVISOR, TRAIN DISPATCHER OR TRAIN SERVICE SUPERVISOR.

    Responsibilities:

    - Develop and implement training curricula tailored to various audiences, including employees, management, and emergency response teams.

     

    - Conduct engaging training sessions, workshops, and simulations on safety practices, emergency response techniques, and hazard recognition.

     

    - Assess and evaluate the effectiveness of training programs, making necessary adjustments based on participant feedback and industry best practices.

     

    - Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify training needs and develop specialized programs to address those needs.

     

    - Maintain up-to-date knowledge of safety regulations, trends, and best practices to ensure training content is current and relevant.

     

    - Prepare and maintain training documentation, including attendance records, training materials, and evaluation reports.

     

    - Serve as a resource for safety-related questions and provide guidance on best practices in emergency preparedness.

    Compensation:

    Note: You will maintain your current rate of pay.

    Education and Experience:

    This position is only open to MTA NYC Transit employees who have a current status in the title of Maintenance Supervisors II, Station Supervisor, Train Service Supervisor or Train Dispatcher.

    Desired Skills:

    - Possess thorough knowledge of the policies and procedures as outlined in the NYCT rules and regulations.

     

    - Knowledge of Federal, State, and City safety, security, and emergency response regulations.

     

    - Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, public administration, Emergency Management, Environmental Science, or a related field preferred.

     

    - Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience.

     

    - Ability to create and maintain scheduling needs for the unit. (Minimum 5 years)

     

    - Strong presentation and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.

     

    - Ability to organize and present material in a timely manner.

     

    - Excellent computer aptitude including Microsoft Office, ELM and One Drive.

     

    - Proficient in using training technologies and tools to enhance learning experiences.

     

    - Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

     

    - Ability to use resources effectively and adapt to changing conditions.

     

    Selection Method

     

    Based on evaluation of education, skills, experience and interview.

     

    All appointments, with the exception of Department of Subways’ employees on MaBSTOA payroll, will be made on the NYCT payroll.
