WG-2810-08 $45.35 WG-2810-10 $51.57 Responsibilities As a High Voltage Electrician, you will: Work on the underground and overhead high voltage primary distribution systems serving the electrical requirements of Yosemite National Park, which is a self-contained distribution system. Installs, tests, repairs and maintains transformer pad mount (submersible and pole mounted), voltage regulators, air switches, submersible switches, circuit breakers, control apparatus and substation equipment. Dismantle, clean, adjust and install equipment in substations, underground vaults, and on utility poles. Locate existing underground utilities, installing conduits, pulling in conductors, splice and terminate conductors, ensure proper phasing of circuits and equipment, troubleshoot distribution circuits and control equipment to locate and correct the cause of power outages. Install emergency cutouts and making substitution of power lines and equipment, occasionally working on energized circuits with approved hotline tools. In addition, the High Voltage Electrician may perform a variety of tasks such as: collecting oil samples, changing oil in transformers and switches, inspecting insulators, arrestors, poles and overhead infrastructure, installing system grounding, performing substation maintenance and removing brush and small trees from equipment areas. Operate one or more motor vehicles including crane trucks, line trucks and bucket trucks, and tows as a combination vehicle a backhoe on a trailer (approximate gross weight of 32,000 lbs). Some trucks may have a manual transmission with four to ten forward gears as well as high and low auxiliary transmission. Requirements Conditions of Employment U.S. Citizenship required. (WG-10 ONLY) Commercial Driver's License (CDL): You must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License within the one (1) year of appointment and maintain for the duration of employment. You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work. You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 1-5 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes. Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority. Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program. To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability to do the work of a High Voltage Electrician without more than normal supervision. (Screen-Out Element- Job Element 1166) WG-8: Successful completion of Lineman college OR on the job training of no less than 500 hours in the safe operation, maintenance and construction of high voltage electrical equipment, including but not limited to: installing, testing, repairing and maintaining generators, PV systems, transformers, regulators, air switches, oil and vacuum circuit breakers, control equipment and substation equipment; work in substations and on underground and overhead high voltage primary distribution systems. WG-10: Meet WG-08 requirements and ability to independently do the work of a High Voltage Electrician including installing, testing, repairing, and maintaining generators, PV systems, transformers, regulators, air switches, oil and vacuum circuit breakers, control equipment and substation equipment; work in substations and on underground and overhead high voltage primary distribution systems. Physical Demands: The High Voltage Electrician lifts, carries, and pulls material, tools, and related equipment to the job site. He/she is subject to climbing steep hillsides over rough mountainous areas and is required to climb power poles. He/she must stand for extended periods of time while making power line repairs and uses coordination of eyes, hands, legs and body in the daily work of this position. He/she will work at elevations ranging from sea level to 10,000+ feet and may fly via helicopter to remote locations. Working Conditions: The High Voltage Electrician works indoors and outdoors. He/she is exposed to heat and cold and to extremes of all types of weather. He/she is subject to work at night, in rain, dust, smoke, snow and mud, under poor illumination, and high ambient noise levels requiring hearing protection, as well as hazardous chemicals and slippery conditions. He/she is required to work from ladders, use pole climbing equipment and work from a high lift bucket. He/she is required to work in confined spaces such as switch gear and transformer vaults. There is a possibility of cuts, bruises, broken bones and strains form awkward positions as well as injury from falls, high voltage shocks and hearing loss if safety rules are not strictly adhered to.
