Job Description
The **Laboratory Safety Specialist** reports to the Associate Director, Lab Safety, and works in conjunction with other members of the Environmental Health and Safety staff in assisting faculty, staff, students, laboratory workers, contractors, and the administration in the implementation and execution of safety, compliance, and emergency response programs. In addition, the Laboratory Safety Specialist is responsible for conducting inspections and audits and assisting researchers, facility managers and safety specialists with the execution of corrective actions associated with compliance and program management.
Specific functions of the Lab Safety Specialist include:
+ Chemical Inventory Management on SciSure
+ Lab inspections
+ Creation of signage and labeling for Labs
+ Maintenance of plans and operating procedures
+ Interface with PIs and Researchers
Hiring range: $72,450 to $90,550; salary commensurate with relevant experience
Requirements
+ Bachelor’s of Science Degree in an area related to environmental science/health, environmental/civil engineering, safety, chemistry, biology or five years of experience in a related field.
+ Preference will be given to those with DOT, RCRA, OSHA, RCRA, and/or HAZWOPER training. Professional credentials (CIH, CHMM, CSP) a plus.
+ Minimum of 3 years of experience, preferably in a waste management, academic, or laboratory setting
