    The Medical Assistant supports physicians and clinical staff in a pain management setting by providing high-quality patient care, assisting with procedures, and ensuring efficient clinical operations. This role requires strong clinical skills, attention to detail, and a compassionate approach to patients experiencing chronic pain.

    Duties/Responsibilities

    + **Clinical Support**

    + Prepare patients for examinations, procedures, and injections (e.g., epidural steroid injections, trigger point injections)

    + Obtain and document vital signs, pain scores, medical histories, and medication lists

    + Assist providers during in-office pain management procedures

    + Perform injections, EKGs, phlebotomy, and wound care as permitted by scope of practice

    + Set up and clean procedure rooms following infection control standards

    + Sterilize instruments and maintain clinical supplies

    + **Medication & Compliance**

    + Review and reconcile medications, including controlled substances

    + Assist with urine drug screens and chain-of-custody documentation

    + Support compliance with pain management protocols and regulatory requirements

    + Educate patients on treatment plans, post-procedure care, and medication instructions

    + **Administrative & Documentation**

    + Accurately document patient interactions and procedures in the EHR

    + Assist with prior authorizations, referrals, and procedure scheduling

    + Coordinate follow-up appointments and diagnostic testing

    + Maintain accurate and confidential patient records in compliance with HIPAA

    + **Patient Care & Communication**

    + Provide compassionate, respectful care to patients experiencing chronic pain

    + Address patient questions and concerns professionally and empathetically

    + Serve as a liaison between patients, providers, and care teams

    * Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; medical office or billing coursework preferred.

    * Experience: Minimum of one year of experience in a medical office setting, preferably in pain management, orthopedics, or physical medicine.

    * Skills and Abilities:

    * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

    * Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

    * Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) and Microsoft Office applications.

    * Ability to multitask and manage competing priorities in a busy clinical environment.

    * Compassionate and professional demeanor when interacting with patients in pain.

    * Working knowledge of medical terminology, insurance processes, and HIPAA compliance.
