POSITION SUMMARY: Building-Based Substitute Teachers ensure that Tapestry Charter School provides its students and families with a world-class K-12 educational experience. Building-Based Substitute Teachers make this possible by serving as a consistent instructional support within the school community and by working proactively to maintain a positive, structured, and inclusive learning environment grounded in Tapestry's core values (Perseverance, Integrity, Respect and Responsibility).
Building-Based Substitute Teachers work to build strong relationships with students, families, and staff while ensuring instructional continuity in the absence of the classroom teachers. This role offers an opportunity to gain meaningful experience within the Tapestry community and serves as a potential pathway to future lead teaching opportunities within our school.
PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Provides high-quality instruction to students in the absence of the classroom teacher across assigned grades by implementing prepared lesson plans and instructional materials.
+ Maintains continuity of learning by ensuring students remain engaged in academic tasks and routines throughout the school day.
+ Establishes and maintains a positive, structured classroom environment that supports student learning and engagement.
+ Manages classroom behavior in alignment with the school's Code of Conduct and student culture systems.
+ Adapts instructional strategies and materials to meet the diverse academic, social, and emotional needs of students.
+ Provides tutoring and targeted academic support to individual students or small groups as needed.
+ Collaborates with teachers, support staff, and administrators to promote student success and address student needs.
+ Supports school-wide routines and transitions as needed, including arrival, dismissal, and hallway supervision.
+ Participates in staff meetings, professional development, and check-ins with supervisors as required.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
+ Bachelor's degree in education or related field preferred.
+ Experience working with children in a classroom setting is preferred.
+ Positive past experiences leading children.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work is performed primarily in a classroom environment, exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Repetitive motion including walking, bending, standing. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers to complete typing, filing, and data entry. Required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading. Position requires talking, walking, driving, speaking and comprehension of complex matters.
