    What are we looking for?

     

    We are looking to add a Residential Support Specialist to our team. As a Support Specialist you will provide support to individuals with disabilities in developing and/or maintaining skills that will enhance the quality of their lives in the community; assist with personal care, household tasks and daily routines; perform other job-related duties as assigned.

    Your overall essential responsibilities will be the following:

    + Observe and respond to individuals’ physical, social, behavioral and personal needs.

    + Provide adequate supervision for individuals to facilitate their health and safety.

    + Will:

    + Be fully trained on individuals’ Individual Support Plan (ISP) and any special plans or therapy.

    + Be fully trained in the individuals’ Behavior Support Plan (BSP) and report to supervisor as required for incidents.

    + Implement and document daily the training outcomes and action steps in the ISP as required during the time the support was delivered.

    + Administer medication to individuals; ensure that administration is timely, in the right dosage and documented on the Medication Administration Record (MAR) as required.

    + Transport individuals to and from appointments, employment and/or community sites.

    + Ensure individuals are appropriately groomed for all activities, employment and appointments,

    + Assist with the planning and implementation of daily activities.

    + Prepare meals or assist with the preparation of meals in accordance with Individual Support Plan and any diet orders, adaptive equipment or mealtime plans.

    + Assist with the daily household chores, to include but not limited to laundry, meal preparation and cleaning.

    + Attend and participate in all relevant agency events, workshops, training and meetings; and

    + Performs other job-related duties as assigned

    Secondary Functions:

    + Assist with medical appointments.

    + Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    + Ability to gain working knowledge of St. John’s Community Services policies and procedures.

    + Ability to act as a representative of St. John’s Community Services to the public.

    + Ability to effectively communicate and coordinate with other staff members and individuals from diverse backgrounds.

    + Ability to pass a criminal background check.

    + Knowledge of acceptable food preparation and safety practices and procedures; and

    + Skilled in the operation of relevant computer systems, including hardware and software, and office machines.

    You will catch our eye if you have the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

    + High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred

    + Two or more years’ experience working with people with disabilities preferred.

    + Experience in community based residential programs a plus.

    All SJCS employees must:

    + Obtain a valid health certificate to meet SJCS or current funding authority requirements as required.

    + Meet SJCS and the funding authority requirement of criminal background and record checks.

    + Valid state-issued driver's license with current driver's record in good standing

    Physical and environmental conditions include:

    + May lift, position and/or transfer individuals with disabilities.

    + Work environment involves risks or discomforts, which require special safety precautions e.g. safely operating a motor vehicle, exposure to aggressive human behavior.
