    UPMC Presbyterian is looking to hire a Full-Time Patient Care Technician to support the Electrophysiology department.

    Schedule:

    + Monday-Friday daylight

    + No weekends or holidays

    Responsibilities:

    + Provides direct patient care, including assistance with procedures, activities of daily living (ADLs), and physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies. Communicates patient status changes and care feedback to the RN. Performs all UPMC nursing core nursing assistant responsibilities, including blood glucose testing, weights, vital signs, intake and output, telemetry monitor application/reapplication, hospital-acquired condition and patient safety indicators, specimen collection, Foley care, and full ADL support (bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, ambulating, turning, and repositioning patients), as well as ticket-to-ride intra-hospital transportation.

    + In addition to core responsibilities, performs at least four BU-identified tasks and/or maintains competency in advanced skills based on departmental need, including phlebotomy/venipuncture, 12-lead EKGs, basic arrhythmia recognition, simple dressings, point-of-care testing, bladder scans, straight catheterization, indwelling Foley catheter removal, peripheral IV catheter removal, NG tube clamping and removal, and placement, monitoring, and removal of patient restraints per physician or hospital protocol.

    + Provides patient and family instruction under RN direction. Documents accurately in the medical record per established procedures. Performs assigned work in a timely and productive manner and completes clerical functions as needed. Access to medications is limited to distribution to the nurse.

    + Ensures equipment malfunctions are reported appropriately and supports unit operations by responding to call lights and phones, passing meal trays, and transporting patients. Establishes clear, effective, professional, and respectful communication and relationships with all members of the healthcare team and other departments. Demonstrates understanding of cultural diversity, horizontal violence, and impairment in health professions, while supporting patient and workplace safety.

    + Constructively receives feedback, participates in self-review, identifies and communicates learning needs to the unit director or direct leader, takes action to improve knowledge and skills, and requests assistance with planning and prioritization when needed. Assumes responsibility for assignments, views problems as challenges, demonstrates awareness of personal behavior on departmental efficiency, suggests and supports departmental changes, and participates in department-based projects and quality initiatives. Strictly adheres to all patient care, safety, standard precaution, and hospital information policies and procedures.

    + High school diploma or GED.

    + Must also have either a) 1 Year of general healthcare experience, OR b) 6 months of experience as UPMC Nursing Assistant/CNA with PCT competency achieved within 120 days of hire/transfer/promotion for those with less than 1 year of experience, OR c) enrollment in PT/OT/PA program or related healthcare training program with completion of at least one clinical rotation, OR d) completion of a bachelor's degree in a health sciences field.

    + Successful completion of UPMC patient care technician class? Successful completion of eRecord training. Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)or Paramedic or currently enrolled in an EMT or Paramedic program preferred. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

    + CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire

    + ACLS preferred

    + Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
