    The Stanford Department of Pediatrics, Division of Rheumatology is seeking a skilled, detail-oriented, motivated, collaborative Clinical Research Epidemiologist I (Academic Program Professional 1)to join the Immune Behavioral Health/ PANS Research Team. The Stanford Immune Behavioral Health (IBH) Clinical Research Program operates adjacent a pediatric multidisciplinary clinic established in 2012 to care for patients with infection-associated neuropsychiatric deteriorations and co-morbid inflammatory conditions (i.e. arthritis, vascular inflammation, etc) symptoms. Led by PI Dr. Jennifer Frankovich, the research program collects longitudinal clinical data and biospecimens to carry out research looking at the immune system, proteomics, microbiome, metabolomics, and genomics at Stanford and with collaborators/ basic scientists globally with the ultimate goal of better understanding the underpinnings of illness and improving diagnosis, care, and treatment for affected individuals.

     

    The Program’s hopeful Clinical Research Epidemiologist I willwork under the general direction of faculty and Senior Epidemiologist to develop, implement, and administer the vision, strategy, and goals of the assigned academic entity/program(s). Incumbent will work closely with Senior Epidemiologist to develop analysis plans using data from a large clinical patient cohort. Ideal candidateswill **have expertise in designing and conducting epidemiological studies,** and will be an enthusiastic, resourceful, proactive, bright, organized, and collaborative.Candidates should have a background in clinical epidemiology, +/-biostatistics, or another similar quantitative discipline, with experience working with large relational databases and strong skills in statistical analyses and will conduct data analyses including but not limited to: linear/logistic regression, mixed effects modeling, and time-series/survival analysis.

     

    In addition to carrying out statistical studies, incumbent will assist with **manuscript development/writing, as well grant writing. This individual will work closely with the P.I., other investigators, research managers, epidemiologists, research analysts, coordinators, students and trainees to organize and execute research agenda. Incumbent will also meet with and advise students, interns and junior research staff on their respective research projects. Individual should contribute to a positive work environment and be of high integrity and able to maintain strict confidentiality of all study subjects.**

     

    This is an on-site (Palo Alto, CA), fixed term position for one (1) year at 100% FTE. Hybrid or remote may be considered. Opportunity for renewal based on funding availability.

    The Immune Behavioral Health/PANS Research Program within the Department of Pediatrics at Stanford University is seeking an Academic Program Professional 1/ Clinical Research Epidemiologist I to work under the direction of faculty or other management to implement and administer the vision, strategy, and goals of the assigned academic entity/program(s).

    Duties include:

    • Oversee and administer research activities by evaluating academic programs, making recommendations that impactpolicies and programs, and coordinating and implementingchanges.

    • Collectandanalyzedata,createreports,reviewandexplaintrendstodetermineprogrameffectiveness;formulateand evaluate alternative solutions and/or recommendations to achieve the goals of theprogram.

    • Writeandeditcontentforproposals,peer-reviewedpublications,andotherprogramactivitiesunderthegeneraldirectionof PI. Assist with the development of research grants, (i.e., may suggest new funding opportunities, write portions of grants, and/or summarize data for grantsupport).

    • Represent the program or function as the key contact and subject matter expert within the department, unit or school and developcommunicationsforinternalandexternalconstituencies.Organizeand/orparticipateinoutreachactivitiessuchas events, partnerships, fundraising, training, and conferences. Lead workshops and facilitatemeetings.

    • Monitor expenses, budgets, and finances of the program. Make recommendations on funding based on programspend.

    • May oversee and train student workers and junior researchstaff.

    _Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of_ _what the University reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs. The pay range for this position working in the California Bay area is_ $90,693–$99,868 _annually_ _based on commensurate experience and background._

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    Candidates should have a background in clinical epidemiology, +/-biostatistics, or another similar quantitative discipline, with extensive experience working with large relational databases and strong skills in statistical analyses (linear/logistic regression, mixed effects modeling, and time-series/survival analysis, etc).

     

    • Master’s degree or higher.

    • Relevant experience in statistics, biostatistics, data science, or a similar quantitative field.

    • Highly proficient in SQL and/or SAS with experience manipulating large, complex datasets.

    • Prior experience manipulating and merging large, complex data.

    • Extensive experience and comfort working with relational databases.

    • Extensive experience importing, transforming, cleaning, merging, and editing data and with quality/accuracy measures.

    • Must be intellectually curious, have strong problem-solving skills, critical thinking skills, and attention to detail.

    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, with effective communication skills.

    • Experience with additional programming languages such as SQL, Stata, R, and Python for data analysis is a plus.

    • Prior clinical epidemiological research experience is necessary.

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

    Master’s degree (MS, MPH, MSc, etc) in relevant research area (psychiatry, infectious disease, pediatrics, public health) and four or more years of relevant experience and training, and relevant experience.Experience in a quantitative discipline such as statistics or clinical epidemiology is required.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):

    • Excellent oral, written, and analytical skills, exhibiting fluency in area of specialization (environmental science, ecology, environmentalhealth).

    • Ability tomentor.

    • Ability to Maintain strict confidentiality of all study subjects

    • Ability to develop program partnerships and fundingsources.

    • Assist with new research proposals and applications for funding andgrants.

    • Lead or participate in multidisciplinary teams across different faculties orschools.

    • Design and implement key components of research projects, including background research, developing and executing implementation strategies, addressing challenges, and incorporating community centeredknowledge andsolutions.

    • Contribute to the preparation of papers for publication. May be a co-author on publications. Present ongoing work and findings to colleagues at academicconferences.

    • Perform ongoing literature review to remain current with new procedures and related research; proposenew research directions based on new advances discussed inliterature.

    • Must be intellectually curious, have strong problem-solving skills, critical thinking skills, and attention to detail.

    • Strong analytical skills and excellentjudgment.

    • Ability to prioritize workload, adjust timelines, work under deadlines, and shift priorities based on program and scientific collaborators (with general guidance) is essential.

    • Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to complete detailed work accurately andthoroughly.

    • Developed project managementskills.
