As a **Diabetes Nurse Educator RN PRN** you can be a part of change.

Scope: Position will support patients at **both CJW Medical Center facilities** , including Chippenham Hospital and Johnston-Willis Hospitals.

Hours: **1-2 days per week, no nights, weekends or holidays.**

Job Summary and Qualifications

The Diabetes Nurse Educator RN PRN provides assessment and education to inpatients across the continuum of care; plans, implements, and evaluates education programs, materials, guidelines, and activities for patients, their significant others, staff, healthcare providers, and community members, abiding by American Diabetes Association (ADA) standards.

What you will do in this role:

• Assess diabetes education needs of inpatients and their significant other(s) per ADA standards.

• Provide survival skills to inpatients.

• Plan, implement, and evaluate programs to meet the diabetes education needs of patients, staff, healthcare providers, and community members.

• Facilitate care across the continuum through appropriate documentation, correspondence, and communication of patient needs to other providers/disciplines.

• Select/Develop diabetes education materials.

• Seek opportunities for professional growth and development.

What qualifications you will need:

• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing (BSN preferred).

• Current Registered Nurse License in Virginia or Current Multistate Compact License.

• 1 year of clinical nursing experience required.

• 1 year of diabetes education experience preferred.

• Current Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) credential preferred.

• If not CDE credentialed, encouraged to take the CDE examination when eligible and/or maintain certification once obtained.
