A CCNY College Laboratory Technician (CLT) job description for Computer Science involves supporting academic technology for faculty, staff and students, which includes maintaining computer systems, networks, and equipment. Duties include assisting students and faculty with hardware, software, and academic computer lab activities, managing inventory, ensuring a safe lab environment, and documenting technical issues. Some roles may also involve higher-level tasks like networking, server support, web design, and virtualization.
Core responsibilities
• Technical support: Assist faculty and students with course-related technologies, troubleshoot common technical problems, and provide support for lab equipment and software.
• Lab management: Set up, maintain, organize, and ensure the safety and hygiene of student computer labs and other technology facilities.
• Equipment and inventory: Manage equipment and materials inventories, including determining needs, preparing purchase specifications, and coordinating acquisitions.
• Documentation: Document all lab activities, technical issues, and inventory changes.
• Supervision: Train and supervise other laboratory staff, such as adjunct faculty and college assistants.
• Networking and systems: Manage and troubleshoot computer systems, networks, and servers. This can include network design, web design, and virtualization.
• Programming and database: Provide support for programming and database-related activities, including system and database management.
• Procurement: Assist the chair with preparing and reconciling purchase requisitions for equipment and supplies through CUNY's procurement system.
• Virtualization: Administer Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) using various operating systems like Linux and Windows.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma with a minimum of four years' related experience. Additional education may be used to meet the experience requirement: an Associate degree may be substituted for two years experience, and a Bachelor's degree may be substituted for four years experience.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field is preferred.
- Familiarity with operating systems, including but not limited to: Linux, Windows Server, Windows, MAC etc.
- Experience providing technical and/or laboratory support in a higher education environment is highly desirable.
- Commitment to assuring student access to meaningful educational experiences in laboratory settings.
COMPENSATION
Salary Range: $65,041- $76,147. Salary commensurate with education and experience.
