Job Summary
Research Technician I, under general supervision performs entry level, semi-skilled, technical support research work involving performance of routine tasks. The selected applicant will assist in the coordination, capture, and data collection efforts on behalf of the quail and tanglehead project in South Texas. The selected applicant will be expected to work with private landowners, graduate student overseeing the project, ranch managers, and project investigators to assist in a multi-pronged effort to assess the impacts of grazing on tanglehead and quail habitat. Primary duties will include quail trap maintenance and deployment, quail handling, deploying transmitters, collecting vegetation data, landowner communication, data entry and analysis, and reporting of effort. In addition, the successful applicant will provide overall support to the project as needed by the Project Supervisor. Position is temporary – approximately 3 months. Expected end date 5/31/2026. Position is remote and based near Hebbronville, Texas.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Assists in the execution of the quail and tanglehead project, with primary responsibilities including:
+ Quail capture, handling, and deployment of backpack transmitters
+ Vegetation sampling and data collection
+ Managing and maintaining field equipment, including quail traps and camera traps
+ Data entry and management, including photos collected with camera traps
+ Interacts with and maintains a working relationship with private landowners and managers in South Texas on a regular basis
+ Performs other duties as assigned related to field research objectives

Minimum RequirementsEducation - High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.Experience - Two years of related experience.Ability to - Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.Physical Requirements - Ability to lift moderately heavy objects. Ability to exert heavy force.

Other Requirements
+ Work hours may vary as a result of environmental conditions (i.e. rain) and animal behavior. Therefore, work hours may include weekends and hours outside of normal business hours, but not to exceed 40 hours/week.
+ Must have a U.S. driver’s license; no other certifications or licenses required
