Description:
Require a contingent CNM to assist with tight staffing and full time CNM anticipated to go on maternity leave in April 2026. CNM will need to be credentialed. This is a contingent position, 0.0 FTE, not part time.
GENERAL SUMMARY
Participates in a program of comprehensive women’s health care, from inter-conception counseling, to assessment of individual woman’s needs, evaluation of obstetrical needs, perinatal follow up, normal spontaneous term labor management, vaginal deliveries, normal newborn evaluation, and well-woman gynecologic examination. Participates as member of the Women’s Health Care Team and practices inter-dependently with the nursing and medical practitioners.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provide obstetric care, inter-dependently with the medical team, to clients attending any of the patient care sites supported by the Department of Obstetrics/Gynecology and dedicated to Obstetric/Gynecology services.
2. Practices inter-dependently with a team of physicians with whom explicit practice commitments have been developed, within departmental polices and procedures.
3. Develops appropriate clinical tools jointly with the medical team to assess potential obstetric risk.
4. Develops care guidelines, jointly with the medical team, for obstetrical clients’ follow up, consultation and transfer when indicated by deviations from normal.
5. Promotes and provides childbirth and breast-feeding education on an on-going basis to enhance the aspects of normalcy in human pregnancy.
6. Provides additional care to non-midwifery obstetrical clients inte-rdependently with the medical team when mutually agreed upon.
7. Develops, in conjunction with nursing, medical team and administration, innovative programs for the care of obstetric clients.
8. Participates in educational programs for clients, medical students, graduate trainees, midwifery students and community.
9. Promotes the philosophy and education of nurse midwifery by participation in division of education programs for clients and health care providers.
10. In the Labor and Delivery area, participates in the initial evaluation of obstetrical clients and provides initial clinical impressions and assessments as needed, in cooperation with the medical team. Practices as a full scope certified nurse midwife within the hospital setting.
11. Participates and promotes a collegial inter-professional relationship with nursing, medicine and all other support personnel.
12. Participates in clinical or basic research, quality assurance and surveys related to institutional operational improvement in women’s health care as it relates to midwifery education and care.
13. Performs all other duties and projects as assigned.
14. Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships. Approaches conflict in a constructive manner. Helps to identify problems, offer solutions, and participate in their resolution.
15. Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patient, physicians, employees, and visitors to Trinity Health Oakland. Discusses patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in appropriately private places.
16. Behaves in accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values of Trinity Health.
17. Assumes responsibility for performance of job duties in the safest possible manner, to assure personal safety and that of coworkers, and to report all preventable hazards and unsafe practices immediately to management.
18. Possess management ability to effectively coordinate the efforts of professional and support staff.
19. Provides quality patient care by considering the age specific, development and cultural needs through competent clinical practice. Demonstrates unit/area competencies.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND LICENSURE
1. Certified nurse midwife, as licensed by the American College of Nurse Midwifery and approved training programs in the United States. Foreign-trained midwives must have completed all requirements as developed by the American College of Nurse Midwives.
2. Licensed by the American College of Nurse Midwifery
3. Prefer active practice of clinical midwifery experience.
