    The Clinical Audiologist provides comprehensive diagnostic and rehabilitative audiologic services to pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients within a large academic medical center. This role involves the evaluation and management of a diverse and medically complex patient population, including close collaboration with an active otology and neurotology practice. The audiologist performs advanced diagnostic assessments across the lifespan and contributes to interdisciplinary care for patients with hearing and balance disorders.

     

    In addition to diagnostic responsibilities, the position includes a focused clinical emphasis on hearing aid and cochlear implant services, including candidacy evaluation, device selection, programming, verification, and long-term management. The Clinical Audiologist practices in accordance with evidence-based standards, supports the academic and clinical missions of the institution, and may participate in clinical education of trainees and learners within the medical center environment.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • 1-2 years clinical experience, preferably in a medical center setting

    • Demonstrated experience or strong interest in cochlear implants

    • Ability to work effectively within a fast-paced, academic medical center setting

    Licensure/Certifications:

    • Eligible for or currently hold Virginia Licensure as an Audiologist

    • Eligible for or currently hold Virginia Licensure as a Hearing Aid Dispenser.

    • Eligible for or currently hold Certificate of Clinical Competency in Audiology (CCC-A) from the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA).

     

    Background checks and pre-employment health screenings will be conducted on all new hires prior to employment. All safety-sensitive positions with direct patient interaction also require a drug screen.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    Administration

    + Work collaboratively with Division Director and clinical team to optimize clinic workflow, operational efficiency, access to care, and patient outcomes.

    + Document clinical findings, treatment plans, and outcomes accurately and efficiently in the electronic medical record in accordance with institutional and regulatory standards.

    + Participate in departmental meetings, quality improvement opportunities, and program initiatives as indicated.

    Professional

    + Demonstrate professionalism through effective communication, teamwork, and commitment to UVA Health’s mission and values.

    + Participate in interdisciplinary case discussions and contribute audiologic expertise to team-based patient care.

    + Engage in continuous professional development and educational activities to maintain licensure and certification.

    + Practice in accordance with scope of practice for audiology, evidence-based clinical guidelines, professional & ethical standards, and applicable state and federal regulations.

    + Promote health equity and inclusion in all aspects of care delivery.

    Clinical

    + Perform comprehensive diagnostic audiologic evaluations for pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients, including behavioral, physiologic, and electrophysiologic testing as clinically indicated.

    + Evaluate and manage patients with complex medical, surgical, and neurologic conditions in collaboration with otology, neurotology, and other referring specialties.

    + Provide hearing aid services, including candidacy determination, device selection, fitting, verification, programming, counseling, and ongoing follow-up care.

    + Deliver cochlear implant services across the continuum of care, including candidacy evaluations, pre- and post-operative assessments, device activation, programming, outcomes monitoring, and long-term management.

    + Provide patient-centered counseling and education for hearing related disorders and relevant treatment/management options to support optimal communication outcomes.

    Leadership

    + Contribute to fostering a positive, patient-centered, collaborative clinic culture.

    + Engage in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to ongoing enhancement of clinical services.

    + Support the academic mission of the medical center through participation in clinical education of students, residents, fellows, and other trainees, as applicable.

    + Act as a clinical resource and subject matter expert in hearing health.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    Education: Master’s Degree in Audiology (minimum)

     

    Experience: 1 Year

     

    Licensure: Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

     

    Skills: Experience utilizing a personal computer and computerized scheduling.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.​

     

    The starting base rate for this role is $81,078.40 annually. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
