    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Performs professional work in conducting the organization-wide review of accident/incident investigations, reporting, and the monitoring of surveillance systems.

     

    Performs other duties in alignment with the COTA Strategic Plan and in support of the organization's vision to Move Every Life Forward.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    + In collaboration with the Sr. Mobility Compliance Officer, supports the review of accident and incident investigations conducted by Strategic Response Specialists, helping gather necessary reports and documentation for administrative use.

    + Assists with follow-up investigations, including coordinating with local law enforcement or Legal Services, diagramming accident scenes, and conducting interviews with operators and witnesses.

    + Helps prepare and distribute reports to determine accident chargeability (Preventable vs. Non-Preventable) and assists with processing daily and monthly accident/incident reports.

    + Completes accident diagrams and gathers supporting materials such as measurement sheets, photos, statements, and video or police reports for preventable accident reviews.

    + Maintains organized records of investigations and related documentation.

    + Provides support in coordinating with external agencies such as the Columbus Accident Investigation Unit and local law enforcement during accident reviews.

    + Logs and tracks inquiries, maintaining folders and documentation for each request.

    + Assists in preparing documentation and evidence for accident appeals when notified of an Operator's intent to appeal.

    + Reviews accident reports and assists in identifying patterns or areas for follow-up.

    + Participates in assigned investigations, including responding to motor coach emergencies and customer or employee complaints related to accidents.

    + Communicates findings and updates with the Insurance Defense Team and Safety Director; helps maintain daily and monthly accident logs.

    + Participates in mock accident evaluations to assess strengths and weaknesses.

    + Monitors surveillance system functionality and reports any issues, as needed.

    + Supports the electronic surveillance team by assisting with product research, demos, and outreach to other transit organizations.

    + May assist with hosting or supporting training sessions provided by the Transportation Safety Institute.

    + May represent the department in community safety initiatives such as Franklin County Safe Communities or the Traffic Fatality Community Committee

    + May support Origami Risk Management platform administration, as needed.

    + Assists with reporting requirements to the FTA/NTD on behalf of COTA.

    + Regular, predictable and punctual attendance required.

    + Performs other duties as assigned.

    MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

    + Requires an Associate's degree in Criminal Justice, Public Safety, Transportation, or a related field and three-to-five (3-5) years' experience conducting criminal and accident investigations. An equivalent combination of education and experience in incident documentation, safety, or investigative work will also be considered.

    + Must possess, or have the ability to obtain, a Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Airbrake & Passenger endorsements; and

    + Must have the ability to obtain TSI certification, if applicable.
