Job Title: Electrical Engineer
Job Description
This position supports the Grid Visualization and Analytics Center (SGVAC) within the Research & Development department. The SGVAC is an innovation center dedicated to the research, pre-operational development, assessment, and demonstration of situational awareness technologies for Transmission and Distribution. Areas of focus include synchrophasor technology, next-generation control center functionalities, cyber security testing, new visualization approaches, DERMS platform evaluation, data analytics, as well as modeling and simulation including via a Real Time Digital Simulator (RTDS) with hardware-in-the-loop testing capability.
Responsibilities
+ Support the Grid Operations and Planning Research area within the Research & Development department.
+ Assist in projects and eventually lead efforts to deploy and evaluate the performance of emerging technologies.
+ Focus on tools to support grid operations with an emphasis on power system analysis, modeling, simulation, big data analytics, and visualization.
+ Engage in projects involving Distribution Management Systems (DMS) and Distributed Energy Resource Management Systems (DERMS).
+ Develop research plans to evaluate new technology.
+ Manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
+ Document study assumptions and methods used to arrive at results.
+ Provide informative reports and presentations on projects.
Essential Skills
+ Design and engineering expertise, particularly in electrical and systems engineering.
+ Strong understanding of power system modeling and simulation.
+ Proficiency in big data analytics and cyber security.
+ Experience in database management and project management.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (EE) is required.
+ Specialization in Power Systems is desired.
+ Training in or experience with computer programming (Python, C#, SQL) is desired.
+ Background in data science is beneficial.

The work environment supports the Schatz Grid Visualization and Analytics Center (SGVAC) within the Research & Development department, an innovation center focusing on situational awareness technologies for Transmission and Distribution. The position involves cutting-edge research and development, including synchrophasor technology, advanced control center functionalities, and cyber security testing. The role includes new visualization approaches, DERMS platform evaluation, data analytics, and modeling and simulation utilizing a Real Time Digital Simulator (RTDS) with hardware-in-the-loop testing capabilities
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Birmingham, AL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $55.00/hr.
