Position Summary
The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the day-to-day accounting operations of the organization. This role ensures accurate financial records, assists with month-end and year-end close, prepares account reconciliations, and supports financial reporting in accordance with GAAP. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and eager to grow within an accounting team.
Key Responsibilities
General Accounting
+ Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts on a monthly basis
+ Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, prepaids, and adjustments
+ Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
+ Ensure transactions are recorded accurately and in compliance with GAAP
Account Reconciliations
+ Prepare balance sheet reconciliations (cash, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, accruals, etc.)
+ Investigate and resolve reconciling items in a timely manner
+ Maintain supporting documentation for audits and internal reviews
Accounts Payable & Receivable Support
+ Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable processes as needed
+ Review invoices, expense reports, and payment requests for accuracy and policy compliance
+ Support cash application and customer/vendor inquiries
Financial Reporting & Analysis
+ Assist in the preparation of financial statements and management reports
+ Analyze variances and provide explanations to management
+ Support budgeting and forecasting activities as assigned
Audit & Compliance
+ Assist with internal and external audits by providing documentation and explanations
+ Support compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures
+ Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies
Systems & Process Improvement
+ Maintain accounting records in ERP/accounting systems
+ Assist with system implementations, upgrades, or process documentation
+ Ensure data integrity across accounting platforms
Requirements
Qualifications
Education
+ Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required)
Experience
+ 1–3 years of accounting experience (public or private)
+ Internship or entry-level accounting experience acceptable for junior candidates
Technical Skills
+ Working knowledge of GAAP
+ Experience with general ledger accounting and reconciliations
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP preferred)
+ Experience with ERP/accounting systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, Dynamics, QuickBooks) is a plus

+ CPA eligibility or progress toward CPA
+ Public accounting experience
+ Experience in [industry: manufacturing, healthcare, nonprofit, tech, etc.]
+ Knowledge of SOX or internal controls (for public companies)
