Job Details
The Assistant Head Nurse (RN) will assist in directing the unit personnel and in the maintenance of the unit operation under the direction of the Director of Nursing, Nurse Manager, and Assistant Nurse Manager.
Responsibilities:
+ Assist in directing the overall operation of the unit, including escalating and following up on identified equipment or environmental issues.
+ Ensure completion of patient assessments, nursing interventions, discharge planning, and patient education by appropriate staff prior to discharge as appropriate or escalate concerns during shift.
+ Coordinate unit workflow to ensure efficient patient care, appropriate staffing, and compliance with hospital policies and procedures
+ Assist leadership in preparing monthly staffing schedules and assigning daily patient care duties to ensure continuity of care and appropriate acuity levels; modify assignments as needed to meet unit demands. Collaborate with the leadership team for planning and conducting of daily unit huddles.
+ Maintain up to date knowledge and follow nursing department policies and procedures as well as hospital labor relations policies. Maintain established departmental/hospital policies and procedures for quality improvement, safety, environmental and infection control.
+ Participate in the development, implementation, and monitoring of quality, and performance improvement initiatives.
+ Serve as a clinical resource and provides the nursing staff assistance as needed to ensure positive patient outcomes. Serve as a liaison between physicians, patients, staff, and families to provide optimal coordination of care during the shift.
+ Participate in committees both nursing and hospital-wide.
Qualifications/Requirements:
+ 2+ years of working Registered Nurse (RN) experience in relevant acute care clinical setting/clinical specialty preferred
+ Prior leadership experience preferred
+ Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
+ Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) required
+ Master’s degree preferred
+ Licensed and currently registered as a professional nurse in New York State
+ Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications required.
+ Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required for Emergency Department
+ Certification in clinical specialty preferred
Salary Range
USD $60.08 - USD $68.54 /Hr.
This range serves as a good faith estimate and actual pay will encompass a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience. The salary range or rate listed does not include any differential pay or other forms of compensation that may be applicable to this job and it does not include the value of benefits.
