    POSITION SUMMARY

    Performs architectural assignments of non-routine to moderately complex nature with some degree of latitude in the use of initiative and independent judgment.

    Qualifications

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

    * Prepares contract documents for bids and construction.

    * Plans layout of projects and integrates engineering elements into a unified design.

    * Develops and monitors project scope, schedule and budget.

    * Conducts field inspection of construction projects to determine status of work and ensure compliance with project design and specifications.

    * Provides professional expertise in the research, design and development of facilities owned or operated by the Authority.

    * Coordinates architectural design and construction projects with outside contractors and Authority personnel.

    * Prepares information regarding design, specifications, materials, equipment, estimated costs and schedules and other elements associated with construction projects.

    * Prepares documentation and drawings required to properly complete contract documents.

    * Reviews drawings and specifications with user departments to ensure compliance with project scope.

    * Performs related duties as assigned.

    MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

    * Providing design plans which meet all local, state, and federal standards, codes, and requirements, along with environmental and energy guidelines.

    * Identifying, assessing, and incorporating new methods, materials, and technologies.

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

    * Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture or Architectural Engineering with 2 years of experience.

    * Possess a valid Illinois driver’s license.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    * Requires sitting for extended periods of time, visual acumen for reading and viewing computer screen, manual dexterity and fingering for working with computer keyboards.

    * Occasional walking, bending, and climbing to investigate systems.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

    * Working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

    * Working knowledge of architectural principles, methods, and techniques.

    * Working knowledge of related building codes and guidelines, including environmental and energy guidelines, City of Chicago building codes, and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards.

    * Strong verbal and written communication skills.

    * Ability to prepare detailed and concise analytical reports.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    * General office environment.

    * May be required to work various extended hours (including nights and weekends).

    * Required to travel to various facilities when conducting field inspections.

    * Subject to varying weather conditions, electrically energized contact rail, ballasted track, and elevated structures.

    EQUIPMENT, TOOLS, AND MATERIALS UTILIZED

    * Auto CADD, CODES, and computer programs.
