Description
Under general direction of the Water Production Lead Operator, the Water Production Operator operates and maintains the water production facilities to assure an adequate supply of potable and palatable water for the public water system and assists in ensuring compliance with all Texas Commission Environmental Quality (TCEQ) rules and regulations related to a public water system.
Principal Duties
Water Production Operator I
This entry-level position in water production operations involves working under close supervision while learning and performing essential duties of the trade..
1. Regulate flow of potable water through the production facilities and maintain water level in reservoir and elevated towers to meet the system demands.
2. Operate & maintain various pumps, motors, and other water production equipment and machinery.
3. Assist in the collection of all necessary water samples and perform standardized laboratory tests to monitor and control water quality.
4. Prepare daily and monthly records to document pumping operations including electricity and chemicals used, assist with all record keeping, enter data into computer records management system and effectively operate the SCADA system.
5. Adjust dosage of treatment chemicals used for disinfection and corrosion control. This includes handling of hazardous chemicals for water treatment as required, including, but not limited to, chlorine and sodium hypochlorite.
6. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
High School Diploma or G.E.D equivalent
Valid Texas Driver’s License
Possess a Class D Water License from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), or have the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire date, and the ability to maintain
Ability to obtain and maintain a Class C Groundwater License from Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) within two (2) years of hire date
Available for emergency response and shift work, to include on-call duties after hours, and on weekends and holidays
Preferred:
Knowledge of water treatment plant operations
Knowledge of safety hazards and safe-practice standards in the work area assigned
TCEQ Class C or higher Water Treatment Operator License
Experience working with MS Word and Excel computer software
